Coalition forces kill two terrorists, detain one
BAGHDAD, Iraq Coalition forces killed two terrorists and detained another suspect during operations Friday targeting terrorist elements in central Iraq.
Specific intelligence led Coalition forces to an area northeast of Balad, where they located a suspected terrorist believed to have ties to al-Qaeda in Iraq regional leadership. As the assault force approached the suspect, he and his associate refused to comply with Coalition forces instructions. When Coalition forces perceived hostile intent from the men, the assault force engaged, killing them.
As Coalition forces were returning to their base of operations, they witnessed several people placing what appeared to be improvised explosive devices in the road in the same vicinity. Coalition forces attempted to approach the individuals, at which time they fled in a vehicle at a high rate of speed. The assault force was able to stop the vehicle, capturing one suspected terrorist. One woman and a child were injured in the operation, and both are being treated at a Coalition medical facility.
We will continue to dismantle terrorist networks that are a lethal threat to security and stability in Iraq, said Cmdr. Scott Rye, MNF-I spokesman.
