CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) - Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez is sending 10 battalions of troops to country's border with Colombia.
He's also ordered the Venezuelan embassy in Bogota closed and say all embassy personnel will be withdrawn from Colombia.
The announcements by Venezuela's leftist leader pushed relations with its neighbor to their tensest point of his 9-year presidency.
Chavez is also warning that Colombia could spark a war in South America, calling its U.S.-allied government "a terrorist state" and labeling President Alvaro Uribe (oo-REE'-bay) "a criminal."
The Venezulians would desert or run away after one good pasteing.
about 1.5 million barrels a day are imported from Venezuela. A top 5 supplier looking to sabre rattle past its economic cold war into something potentially quite a bit warmer.
Should be good for about a .25 cent boost on diesel and gasoline Monday morning.
I’m beginning to wonder if these tin pot dictators are in cahoots with the hedgers, like say George Soros, who has extensive experience in manipulating currencies and commodity markets. Seems like our communist revolution is getting daily pushes in favor of the Obama politicos.
Our economy and markets are be manipulated, as is our electoral process.
I have friends in South America. Mainly in Brazil, but a few in Columbia. This could spark a regional war.
I’d be suprised if Venezuela supplies more than 6 or 7% of US imported oil; It’s certainly not anywhere near 40%, not has it ever been.
small, too.
When was the last time the US directly intervened militarily against a south american government? (we are involved militarily in Colombia/N. Peru afaik, but that is by invitation). Serious question, I cannot remember the last time. The removal of panama from colombia might be the last time.
Also, Noriega could have been taken out without firing more than maybe a few shots....

You missed/ignored the point, entirely.
I wonder if BHO still wants to have unconditional talks with Chavez.
Good point

"Vital" is just another way of saying "really valuable."
You go ahead and try and make it through a day, week, month, or year without purchasing that which is required to either move people, goods, or services and see what happens. Everything would come to a standstill without petroleum, and the oil companies know this.
Yeah, that's what makes it so valuable.
They know that despite whatever artificially inflated price they come up with consumers will HAVE TO BUY fuel.
So why don't they charge 10 billion dollars a barrel? Why only $100?
The oil companies also are pretty savy in the artificial price hikes. They raise them to a point just shy of where consumers will begin to revolt, and then drop them a bit for a while.
How exactly would consumers "revolt" if they "HAVE TO BUY" fuel?
The oil companies also are pretty savy in the artificial price hikes. They raise them to a point just shy of where consumers will begin to revolt, and then drop them a bit for a while. Then, start the process all over again. They've been doing this since the late 1990's as they've factored into their profit margins that consumers will cry, but not do anything different as long as they engage in this practice at a slow pace. It's like placing a frog into a boiling pot of water versus putting a frog into a pot of cold water and slowly raising the temperature. The frog dropped into the boiling water will attempt to get out. The frog in the water that is slowly raised to a boil will do nothing and eventually be boiled to death.
Sorry, but that's a load of crap. We buy gasoline for $3 per gallon because the gallon of gasoline is worth more to us than the $3 in our pocket. As the price of oil rises, people gradually reduce their usage, through buying more fuel-efficient cars, using less electricity, traveling less, carpooling, etc. Also, as the price rises, oil companies start to have enough incentive to go get oil that's more expensive to extract.
It still amazes me how people who supposedly believe in freedom just go nuts when it comes to oil, as if oil is some kind of singularity. It's not.
Yes. If that were not true, the gas station would just jack the price up to 10 billion dollars per gallon. Why doesn't that work? Because consumers won't pay it. And why *do* you pay the $3 per gallon? Because that gallon of gas is worth more to you than $3.
Thank you so much.
Bring back the Munroe doctrine, no enemies in the hemisphere.
It’ll be interesting to see if they’ll die for Cocaboy.
Bingo. He’s just playing speculative excess. If they can keep things on a slow boil for another 10 years they might have enough of our money to buy us straight up.
Who are these people claiming to be conservatives and bashing the Oil industry. They need to sign up for DU.

It gets better. Hydrocarbons in cars is wasting it because we’ll need those to produce the plastics that make our lives literally possible. Without oil, science guys are guessing we would see our entire population recalibrated downward to a max of about 2 billion. Byproducts go into ferts and pesticides without which the farming miracle would not be possible. So access to oil is in fact do or die.
hehehe
