CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) - Venezuela's President Hugo Chavez is sending 10 battalions of troops to country's border with Colombia.
He's also ordered the Venezuelan embassy in Bogota closed and say all embassy personnel will be withdrawn from Colombia.
The announcements by Venezuela's leftist leader pushed relations with its neighbor to their tensest point of his 9-year presidency.
Chavez is also warning that Colombia could spark a war in South America, calling its U.S.-allied government "a terrorist state" and labeling President Alvaro Uribe (oo-REE'-bay) "a criminal."

The US military might have to take five minutes from its other duties to smash this lunatic.
Hmm, something tell me that the US advisors there to help in the drug war are going to be reassigned to other nonassigned duties.

Well, if your economy is tanking, you need an external enemy to focus the anger of the population on. That’s why economies at war do so well. The people are willing to make sacrifices for victory, which might be greater than the sacrifices they would be unwilling to make for a tyrant. It has the potential to get interesting.
Doesn’t seem to work in North America.
Lets not get carried away. Moving tanks & troops to the border doesn’t mean they are ever going to cross the border. It’s probably just a lot of bluster.
War is always a convenient excuse for shortages and hardship.
Warm up the B-52s and B-1s and B-2s...... crush Hugo’s army and his bloated posturing will collapse like the farcical fraud that he is.....

When it gets there, it would sort of regain parity with the $1.25 daily price of The New York Times. (When I was in high school, early sixties, the Times cost a nickel and a gallon of gas was a quarter.)

A battalion is a military unit of around 500-1500 men usually consisting of between two and six companies and typically commanded by a Lieutenant Colonel. Several battalions are grouped to form a regiment or a brigade.
For just a moment, imagine 10 battalions of the mexican military sent to our border. How would that strike you?
