Huckabee on "Hannity & Colmes" (transcript from Friday)
Real Clear Politics ^ | February 29, 2008 | Hannity & Colmes

Posted on 03/01/2008 5:35:14 PM PST by Kurt Evans

SEAN HANNITY ... : ... We get right to our top story tonight. Super Tuesday [sic] is just four short days away. Could this be the end of the road for Mike Huckabee? ...

HUCKABEE: ... I think it's absurd for us just to assume, let's call the game because someone is close to the finish line...

My point is, right now I'm the only candidate in this race that supports the Human Life Amendment, the only one that supports the Fair Tax, the only one that supports the Federal Marriage Amendment, the only one that supports a real plan for border security, that ends amnesty and builds a literal fence. We have seen Congress goof that up this week with another 88-million-dollar disaster. We need some leadership...

HANNITY: Governor, in fairness to you, can I say one thing? You have run a great campaign. You started with nothing... You had no money. You were going through airports by yourself on commercial airlines... So I think you ought to be proud of where you are. I really mean that...

COLMES: Are you offering Republicans a choice in that your path and your presidency would be very different than a John McCain presidency?

HUCKABEE: Well, it would be different. I would push for a Human Life Amendment. I think that that's an important issue for Americans to settle, just like slavery was 150 years ago. I would push for a border fence. I would make sure that we actually dealt with this problem and didn't let it linger like Congress has...

I would push for the Fair Tax. I wouldn't just say I hope it happens. I would go out and sell it... We need something bold and the Fair Tax is a bold idea that would revitalize the American economy...

Might be a good idea for the good talkers who support Huckabee to call a talk show, and let listeners know how strong Huckabee is on our 2nd amendment rights:

http://www.mikehuckabee.com/?FuseAction=Issues.View&Issue_id=18

Voters know how pro-life Huckabee is, but might not know how good he is on the 2nd amendment.

“McCain is an quite an old man. Can he stand up to the continued rigors of running for President?”

I expect him to conduct a dispirited campaign:

Thanks... Now I have a question for you: Do you remember a thread where Jim Robinson basically declared war on John McCain, the result of McCain’s assault on political free speech?

I read that post several days ago, through a link that another FReeper posted, but I cannot remember where... and I need it to refute a McCainiac’s assertion that JR would never say such things of McCain, and if he did then he must be a “nut-case kook” like myself.

My guess is there’s more than one thread carrying that sentiment. If you can remember any three-word combination from the thread, you can probably google it (i.e. “freerepublic ‘jim robinson’ ‘three word combination’”).

The best part is that Huckabee really gets it, and has the guts to publicly state the paramount reason:

The 2ndA is about our ability to defend our liberties from a government gone tyrannical, period.

Are you listening Senator “anti-Constitution” John McCain?

Huckabee promotes ‘open door’ policy at LULAC convention
Thursday, Jun 30, 2005

By Wesley Brown
Arkansas News Bureau
LITTLE ROCK - In a impassioned speech before hundreds of influential Hispanic civil rights leaders from across the nation, Gov. Mike Huckabee told a captive audience Wednesday that America is great because it has always opened it doors up to people seeking a better way of life.

“Do unto others as you would have others do unto you,” Huckabee said, citing the Golden Rule. “I have tried to govern that way and it stands to reason that I really do believe that what made this great country so great and so unique is that it has always been a place for people to run to - and not run from.

“I would hope that no matter who we are, or where we are from, that America should always be a place that opens its arms, opens it heart, opens its spirit to people who come because they want the best for their families ...,” Huckabee said as the largely Hispanic audience gave him a standing ovation.

Huckabee was the keynote speaker, along with Tyson Foods Inc. Chairman and CEO John Tyson, at a noon luncheon of the League of United Latin American Citizens, which is holding its 76th annual convention in Little Rock.

About 10,000 political, community and business leaders, along with exhibitors and speakers are in Little Rock attending the convention at the Statehouse Convention Center. The convention started Monday and runs through Saturday.

Although he never actually talked about the U.S. or Arkansas immigration policy, Huckabee made it very clear where he stood on the issue. In his opening remarks, he said the nation will need to address the concerns of the Hispanic community because of its growing influence and population base.

“Pretty soon, Southern white guys like me may be in the minority,” Huckabee said jokingly as the crowd roared in laughter.

He told the LULAC delegates that their presence in the state’s capital city was very important because Arkansas has one of the fastest growing Hispanic populations in the nation.

“Your gathering is so very significant for our state,” Huckabee said. “We are delighted to have you.”

Despite several light moments, Huckabee did not stray away from several controversial issues that made him a target of criticism during the recently ended 85th General Assembly. He said Arkansas needs to make the transition from a traditional Southern state to one that recognizes and cherishes diversity “in culture, in language and in population.”

“This is an issue that is going to require extraordinary efforts on both sides of the border, particularly those coming from Mexico,” Huckabee said of verifying the status of illegal aliens. “But I am confident that our government will recognize that we should accommodate people who wish to provide the best opportunities for their families (and) employers so that we can make sure our economy has the necessary work force.”

During the legislation session, Huckabee criticized an immigration bill by Republican senators Jim Holt of Springdale and Denny Altes of Fort Smith as un-Christian, un-American, irresponsible and anti-life.

Senate Bill 206, which died in the Senate, would have required proof of citizenship to register to vote and also force state agencies to report suspected cases of people living in the country illegally. Holt, R-Springdale, replied later to Huckabee’s comments that Christian charity does not include turning a blind eye to lawbreaking.

The Republican governor, who many believe will run for president in 2008, also backed legislation that would have opened the door for illegal immigrants in Arkansas to receive college scholarships.

House Bill 1525 by Rep. Joyce Elliott, D-Little Rock, was approved by the House but eventually failed in the Senate. Huckabee reiterated Wednesday that he believes every child, regardless of their parent’s immigration status, should have an opportunity to receive an education in the U.S.

http://www.arkansasnews.com/archive/2005/06/30/News/323746.html

Not only did Huck WANT ILLEGALS but he also wanted to offer ILLEGALS scholarships.

Mike is LYING to you. He is not what he pretends to be.

Huckabee is WORSE than McCain.

Mitt would have been the best candidate even though he was a MORMON. Well, we know how “Christian” Mike kept attacking him on that.

Relief is in sight. Soon even Mike will have to dig deep for some grace and EXIT the race. Mike is particular bothers me. He’s a charming LIAR and disgraces Christianity. What I find totally disgusting is his cloaking of HUMANISM as Christianity and STUPID people falling for it. They don’t bother to CHECK HIM OUT. He was a DISASTER as an Arkansas governor - an absolute DISASTER!

Mike personally insults Christians with his incessant LYING and HUGE EGO. McCain isn’t using “religion” as his weapon. The Huckster is and aids the UGLY stereotype of a “Christian”. I noticed Dobson didn't endorse this fraud till after the MORMON dropped out ... Dobson is a sell out. Robertson is a sell out for McCain. They both digust me.

My question to backslidden Mike is this:

Matt.16:26

[26] For what is a man profited, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?

I won’t be with him, at the White throne.

Mike Huckabee absolutely does get it. He said that while he hunts himself, the 2nd amendment is not about hunting. He knows it protects us from tyranny, as you stated.

“Have you ever sought any professional help for that “Hate Huckabee” problem of yours?”

No, I see very clearly the phony that Huckabee IS.

Personal attacks won’t change that. Taking lessons from the Huckster? Personal attacks? He's just as obnoxious.

It’s to bad you are so easily duped. Backslidden “Christians” do harm to genuine Christianity. HUckabee is no Christian. This race is all about HIM and his HUGE EGO. He needs to go and stop embarrassing genuine Christians. Huckabee is a disgrace.

>> Backslidden “Christians”, HUckabee is no Christian.

Go back and read your own posts. Don’t you think that your own statements about Huckabee are PERSONAL ATTACKS???

As a matter of fact, I would say to you,

Romans 14:4 Who are you to judge the servant of another? To his own master he stands or falls; and he will stand, for the Lord is able to make him stand.

Why don’t we shine the light in your closet, and see what makes you such a model Christian? Or maybe you can tell us what deeds evidence your faith?

To be quite honest, all I hear are incoherent ramblings of an angry Poster; can you take a deep breath and provide us with some specifics or quotes from Huckabee that indicate his backslidden nature, his huge ego, his embarrassing actions, etc... If you cannot be specific, then you might want to consider a run around the neighborhood and to take a break from the keyboard ...

“By the way, you wouldn’t happen to be a Mormon, would you? They seem to be spilling a lot of the “Gospel of Hate” towards the Huck these days...”

NOPE!

Not a Mormon.

Aa a Christian, that is Bible based and sees the Huckster for what he is a phony Christian. The “hate” you read into my replies is YOUR OWN “HATE”. I suppose the Gospel of HUMANISM, that Huckabee preaches suits you better than the Gospel of Christ. Let me help you out. YOU HATE ME and wish to blame ME for YOUR HATE. This is called transference. Transfer your hate somewhere else - or if need be - continue to stew in it as you are doing.

Some of us are not fooled .... you’ve been fooled and become as nasty as the Huckster is. I see the end is in sight for the Huckster ... his HUGE EGO and empty talk of winning are becoming increasingly hard to sustain. It took him a few weeks to catch up where Mitt left off with the delegate count so now he can soothe his HUGE EGO with “coming in second”. His run has ALWAYS been about HIM. He never had a chance. Even the main stream media is IGNORING him and laughing at the same time AT HIM.

Mike Huckabee is a PHONY Christian and always has been. Backslidden Baptists don't; impress me. Apparently you are impressed with backslidden "Christians" The Huckster disgraces genuine Christianty - a pity you can't see the difference ... then again I understand the times we live in ... . Sound doctrine and in this case, put into political speak is not tolerated.
