Huckabee on "Hannity & Colmes" (transcript from Friday)
Real Clear Politics ^ | February 29, 2008 | Hannity & Colmes

SEAN HANNITY ... : ... We get right to our top story tonight. Super Tuesday [sic] is just four short days away. Could this be the end of the road for Mike Huckabee? ...

HUCKABEE: ... I think it's absurd for us just to assume, let's call the game because someone is close to the finish line...

My point is, right now I'm the only candidate in this race that supports the Human Life Amendment, the only one that supports the Fair Tax, the only one that supports the Federal Marriage Amendment, the only one that supports a real plan for border security, that ends amnesty and builds a literal fence. We have seen Congress goof that up this week with another 88-million-dollar disaster. We need some leadership...

HANNITY: Governor, in fairness to you, can I say one thing? You have run a great campaign. You started with nothing... You had no money. You were going through airports by yourself on commercial airlines... So I think you ought to be proud of where you are. I really mean that...

COLMES: Are you offering Republicans a choice in that your path and your presidency would be very different than a John McCain presidency?

HUCKABEE: Well, it would be different. I would push for a Human Life Amendment. I think that that's an important issue for Americans to settle, just like slavery was 150 years ago. I would push for a border fence. I would make sure that we actually dealt with this problem and didn't let it linger like Congress has...

I would push for the Fair Tax. I wouldn't just say I hope it happens. I would go out and sell it... We need something bold and the Fair Tax is a bold idea that would revitalize the American economy...

"Why shouldn’t the voters of Texas and Ohio have a choice?

You can add Nebraska to that lot.

Given the choice between a proven enemy of the Constitution: John McCain, and that of hokey Mike Huckabee... I'll go with Huckabee.

John McCain is a dangerous, dishonest, disconnected, delusional, disingenuous RINO. He has a hair-trigger temper and a Caesar syndrome ego... All the markings of a tyrant... a dictator. He is the last man on Earth that any reasonable American should choose to control the nuclear arsenal of the United States.

“No excuse, just facts. This is a republic and the voting has not finished. The only poll that counts is the offical voting. Otherwise, why even vote. Save money and let the pollsters tell us what people want.”

No excuse? Mike can’t possible win! There comes a point where a rational person realizes tha it is time to step aside. The majority of people don’t’ want him. When the dreaded MORMON realized that and had MORE delegates than Mike had, gracefully stepped aside. It’s time for Mike to do that. You even said yourself when someone has half the delegates then Mike should step aside. When I pointed out the McCain had MORE THAN HALF for some time now ... you go back to the race isn’t over yet ... it is OVER FOR MIKE.

Delegate count:

Republicans(1,191 needed to win nomination)

Candidates number of delegates

John McCain 1014

Mike Huckabee 257

Mike cannot NOT catch up with the delegate count.

“No one is harmed by waiting until the official voting declares a winner. The entire republic is harmed if we start bullying people out before all of the voting has taken place.”

The Republic would be better off if politicians like Mike would step aside and stop misleading people that he can win, when it is sheer impossible. The GOP base needs to UNITE now. Mike is a LOST CAUSE. Mike is causing DIVISION and leading people on - that’s WRONG.

RHINO?

LOL!

I’m not voting for anyone this election.

I require a CONSERVATIVE candidate - fiscally and socially. Mike is not the candidate and neither is McCain. It’s too close to call between the Demoncrats but I suspect that the Obomination may just get the nomination.

I’ve held my nose enough for RHINO’s. No more. What’s LEFT of the GOP does need to unite under McCain. Spoliers and sore losers like Mike need to step aside.

“Did we time warp or something? Wasn’t Super Tuesday nearly three weeks ago?”

They’re referring to March 4 as Super Tuesday 2. Sean apparently misspoke there.

"McCain has 1014 - MORE THAN HALF THE DLEGATES [sic] TO WIN!"

"Ghost" probably meant more than half the delegates overall.

Yes, I meant overall. Obvious to most thinking people, since that’s how many it takes to be the official nominee. Not obvious to cheaters, apparently.

“I’m not voting for anyone this election.”

Good... than shut-up and let those who have not yet cast their ballot in a primary do so.

“I require a CONSERVATIVE candidate - fiscally and socially. Mike is not the candidate and neither is McCain.

Then why do you stomp so hard for McCain? The convention delegates may just decide to throw him over the side... such action would not be without precedent.

You state to be a conservative... but then, under the pretense of “uniting the party” insist voters shut-up, get out of the way, and let John McCain slide into power without friction from conservatives. That strikes me as the behavior of a GOP establishment hack.

McCain needs to know he has MUCH opposition. But you would silence that opposition through ridicule and intimidation.

Methinks thou protests too much.

SEAN HANNITY ... : ... We get right to our top story tonight. Has everyone got my books?

HUCKABEE: ... I think it's absurd for you to write in Ruth's Chris Steak House.

HANNITY:Have you bought my book?

COLMES: Are you offering Republicans a book?

HUCKABEE: Sean, did you write a book?

KENNEDY: I never read books, I listen to the people.

HANNITY: Listen to my intro music!

OZZY: That's really inbred, man.

That is what I thought you meant, and I agree about “cheaters”.

I’m sitting here thinking about how amazingly rude and dishonest people have been towards Huckabee, and I thought I would mention something funny. Over at rushlimbaugh.com he posted a statement about how he doesn’t call Obama “Hussein” (his legal name) but he does call him liberal. Then on the same page he calls Huckabee “Huckster.” That’s my problem with civility rules. They never seem to apply evenly. I suppose that will never change. But election rules are another matter. I will fight to the grave for those to apply evenly. Ohio, Texas, Nebraska, and others have not even voted yet. Until one candidate has 1191 delegates, those voters still have a choice. Those are the rules and cheaters just have to be forced to play by them.

At least Huckabee, for all his faults, has signed promises that he WILL fight to secure the borders, to build a fence, and to NOT grant amnesty or citizenship to illegal aliens.

McCain has “stated” he will secure the borders... He has said nothing more, and in fact he STILL supports amnesty.

We have signed written promises from Huckabee, and no such guarantees from McCain... not that McCain would ever keep his word, being a pathological liar and a traitor to the American Republic. But I guess when a man hides his treasonous actions behind his past military service, such a man is able to get away with just about anything.

“John McCain 1014”

That number includes 47 projected delegates and 102 unbound delegates. In other words, 47 of them haven’t been selected yet, and any number of circumstances could cause up to 102 of the others to change their minds between now and the September convention:

Well, GHOST is free to make up his own rules but when 1191 delegates are reached by McCain ... SURELY Mike will feel even more compelled to EXIT. One can only hope.

Republicans(1,191 needed to win nomination)

Candidates number of delegates

John McCain 1014

Mike Huckabee 257

Mike isn’t even in the ball park with the delegates left to get. Mike won’t get half of the needed delegates to win. The rules are who ever gets 1,191 gets the nomination. There is no need to keep dragging this out.

To: Kurt Evans; All

Go Huck!

1. To those here that talk about him bailing out - are you quitters that would stop running in a foot race if you were in a distant 2nd? If so, thank God that Huck isn’t you!

2. To those that think the polls are speaking and Romney is still ahead - I know you are genuine in taking into account that there haven’t been that many contests since Super Tuesday and Huck is trying to overcome the Romney and McCain “News Press Express”. They couldn’t even come close to Huck’s numbers if spending the same amount of money, and if the media wasn’t censoring Huckabee. That’s because everyone of you McCain/GOP zombies know that if Huckabee and McCain went one on one - it would be like the inspirational difference of an Olympic athlete and a corpse.

3. To those that think Romney was gracious (it was costing him $600,000+ / delegate), have another sip of Kool-Aid ...

4. To those that think Huck wrapping it up is for the good of the country - think twice before you think voting that voting for McCain (business as usual) is good for the country...

I am writing in my vote for Huckabee if he does not get the nomination - I would rather spend 4 years in exile in the land of my enemies (Democrats), rather than prostitute myself to Karl Rove, the GOP, and all of the other turncoats stealing your vote for self gain.

I will survive!

That’s probably good food for thought.

As the Hopester has said.... He didn't major in math. It would take something akin to a miracle for him to see the convention stage as a viable candidate. Texas and Ohio will just about seal his fate come Tuesday, Mar. 4

Amen, and Amen. I met Mike Huckabee face to face and shook his hand last Tuesday evening. I was introduced to him as a Hunter supporter. He looked me in the eye and had nothing but praise for Mr. Hunter, and gratitude for Hunter’s efforts for him. I will be voting for Huckabee next Tuesday in Ohio.

Double that AMEN AND AMEN!!! I still would love for Huckabee to come through. I don't think any of us have a clue about the convention yet. There are a LOT of the conservative Republicans that are disenfranchised!!!
