That is what the GOP leadership is betting on, and that is why you get McCain. McCain, Obama and Clinton all support the same policies that the GOP leadership supports -- status quo: open borders, amnesty for illegals, assaults on the First Amendment, etc.

The GOP leadership has no incentive to change, because they figure the conservatives will vote for their candidate, regardless of whom he is. After all, where else are the conservatives going to go? Fishing?
