Citadel Cuts MAL's Core & More - 2/29 - DCRTV gets confirmation: Longtime DC radio talker Chris Core has been let go from Citadel talker WMAL, which has promptly erased him from its 630wmal.com website, including its program schedule (right). We're told that it was "not personal," just "part of a massive cutback country-wide by Citadel." Core has worked at WMAL more than two decades, doing the Bill "Trumbull And Core" afternoon show in the 1980s. And there are rumblings of more cuts at Citadel's three DC stations - WMAL, WRQX, and WJZW - including the latter's entire airstaff (see newsblurb below). Also, DCRTV is also hearing that Citade

I cannot help but think that both WMAL management and Core were all caught up by surprise from this.... for Chrissake, Core has been showing off mattresses at Select Comfort stores in the area for the past two weekends promoting 630 WMAL, etc....

Damn.... I was listening to Core today. His show was good this morning. I feel bad for him but honestly I don't think he belongs on radio and he basically sucked ass. It was so evident when he and Chris Plante were on together. Like today, alot of people were making good points about the 1 in 15 black men that are incarcerated. A couple of people made good points but he didn't listen to what they had say until somebody says what he wants to hear.
Good move to give him the boot.
I'm pissed Plante is moving to the morning....Alright I am being selfish. We gotta share his show with more people......can anybody say syndication.....its kinda like when you have a favorite local band and they sign a record deal and become pop stars.

CC was one of the few reasons I listened to 630WMAL.

He was with them for over 30 years and one of the TALKERS 100 for over 3yrs in a row.

He did not carry the water for the Bush Administration and that was one of the reasons I liked him.

I know he planned on retiring in about 5yrs once his daughter went off to college. This sucks.

I hope they’re keeping Mark Levin. I’m away from the radio in the morning so I’ll miss my evenings with Chris Plante. They can drop the overnight show for something new as far as I’m concerned. If I ever happen to be listening, I’m always relieved when the nightly goofball says something disparaging about President Bush alerting all that the guest is a democrat. The best announcement would be that management is dropping that dreadful ABC news radio enemy propaganda and picking up Fox News.

However, if we get Imus The Cadaver before him in the a.m., then Chrissy will have no choice but to cover local stories because WMAL will not become all-national news all of the time.

Personally, I prefer Core's contrast to the rest of the day. He could spend on hour on the national AND local headlines.
