Citadel Cuts MAL's Core & More - 2/29 - DCRTV gets confirmation: Longtime DC radio talker Chris Core has been let go from Citadel talker WMAL, which has promptly erased him from its 630wmal.com website, including its program schedule (right). We're told that it was "not personal," just "part of a massive cutback country-wide by Citadel." Core has worked at WMAL more than two decades, doing the Bill "Trumbull And Core" afternoon show in the 1980s. And there are rumblings of more cuts at Citadel's three DC stations - WMAL, WRQX, and WJZW - including the latter's entire airstaff (see newsblurb below). Also, DCRTV is also hearing that Citade
If Imus gets the slot your screwed. I have been listening to him in the AM and it seems as though he runs the show twice. He has repeat interviews and the same stuff over & over again. I don’t know what anyone sees in him but he has power in radio so he may just get it if it’s in the am.
Sorry for you guys that like this guy they cut. I felt the same way when they through out Curtis & Kuby in the am slot for the A hole.
Does he even have a license?
I know, MarineMom... the bright side of the matter is that Plante will be presumably taking over Core’s slot... the not-so-bright side is that his lead-in show *might be* Imus... UGH!... and that Plante might have to actually start talking about local issues a little more... it’s a sad day all around...
Any other local Citadel hosts in your area getting the boot?
Since it's now revealed that Chris Plante will be moving to the 9:00 a.m. slot, I'll probably tune in to him, since he is first rate in my book. However, if Andy and Grandy are chucked to make room for Imus, then I'm gone.
I realize that radio is a cut-throat business, but this is pretty crappy how Chris was just up and dumped without warning after 20 some years on the air.
Silvie, you must have mixed emotions about this! Chris Plante is great. But if they get rid of Grandy and Andy and Bryan {whose wife just had a baby today!} in the 5-9 a.m. slot I will go back to Spanish radio because I will not listen to that nasty piece of work and corpse-like Don Imus.

I agree. Grandy and Andy and Bryan are the reasons I crawl out of bed in the morning... this is complete insanity... Bryan must be so nervous right now — new baby, uncertain future — it’s just all sad...
WHOA! Is THAT what precipitated Core’s termination, and possibly the demise of Andy & Grandy? WOW! I guess Clear Channel then should NOT have signed that big multi-million dollar deal with the I-Jerk then.

“Giving the liar Chris Plante a better timeslot is ludicrous. If Citadel thinks the lawsuit against Core was bad for business, wait until more people are able to hear Plante’s lies and conjecture. I predict Chris Plante’s mouth will get him in trouble very soon-his bad timeslot in the past has given him some shielding from scrutiny. Oh, by the way, I made the same prediction about Michael Graham when he moved up from Richmond. I called that one! Pretty soon more people will see Plante for the hardcore bonehead that he really is. Chris Core had his faults, but he was never as dangerous with a microphone as I predict Chris Plante wll be opening for Rush.”

Surreal... I was listening to him this morning and appreciating his independent viewpoint and willingness to discuss bigger picture issues that national hosts don’t. Now he’s gone. Crazy. Flaming moderate or not, I’ll miss him.
We’ll see. If Clear Channel is indeed melting down, then they could conceivably get their walking papers this weekend or on Monday.

I know! I was driving back from Annapolis this morning (after dropping off my mom at my aunt’s house) and listened to Core all the way down to Waldorf and I was thinking the same thing... he was discussing this whole issue with prisons and how 1/100 men go to prisons and the whole black-n-white thing... I was thinking “Man, Core sounds real good today!”
And then, KA-BOOM!
I absolutely will not listen to Imus.
Plante should continue having Michael Piercey as his tech director and keep Geoff Holtzman (Core’s producer & screener) too... a big part of why I tune in sometimes to Chrissy at night is to listen to and figure out what Piercey is up to... he is f*cking hilarious...
