Which is exactly why the words were so hurtful.

You called me, directly, on the phone, a “xenophobe with my hair on fire” live on the air on one of your shows, about three weeks before you left for the WH. I’m pretty sure that implies I’m a racist.

If fact it was, I thought, so out of character as I knew it, that something was on your mind.

As a big fan, and a proud Snowflake, I was devasted that you did so and a few folks here might remember how shocked I was that you would do so. It took me I while to forgive you, but I have, and I had almost forgotten, too.

I used it as a tagline here, for quite a while as a badge of honor, against those who would call us names rather than make their case.

I understand why you wouldn’t want to remember. but I remember how devastating those comments were to me personally coming from someone I admired, and I was mortified.

If they came from others who we would expect it from, I’m sure I would have laughed it off.

One slip of the brain and tongue, does not a person make. If I thought you meant it, trust me, I wouldn’t be here.

So If I can take the insult and forgive, I’m sure you can as well, even if we continue to disagree.

Hi, HC. I know better than to get in the middle of a family feud, but I cannot resist. You remind me of my first wife [who just happens to also be my current wife!] If I err, or am perceived to have erred, that error is filed away and brought up at appropriate times. [Like when I am getting a big head.] Women are reluctant to let stuff go. Men on the other hand get abused so often, and so badly, that it is not etched into their memories.

Now let’s purse the phrase “xenophobe with...hair on fire”. “Xenophobe” means, among other things, a fear of the foreign. It does not equate, to me, with the very pejorative term “racist”. I would admit to being a xenophobe myself to the extent that I am fearful for what this massive invasion of illegal foreigners is doing to our country and culture.

“Hair on fire” means, to me, behaving with great passion. Again, I would say I admit to exhibiting great passion in opposing illegal immigration.

So beauty and insults are often in the eye of the beholder. I am on your side on the immigration issue and do not feel Tony was, or intended, to insult you. The greater issue for those of us opposing illegal immigration is to emphasize that our opposition is to the illegality, not the immigration.

To quote the great philosopher, Obama, we were friends before this discussion and we will be friends after this discussion.

HC,

Thanks for the note. If I said that, shame on me. I’m pretty sure I never said such a thing directly — but in any event, your taking offense means I blew it.

Thanks for the reminder that words count.

Best,

Tony
