There is now a plan to allow college students to carry weapons on any public campus. The legislation is on its way to the state house.
The text of House Bill 2513 says any student who is at least 21 years old and has a concealed carry permit would be allowed to bring a firearm to school. It comes as campus violence seems to be on the increase.
Everyone at OSU-Tulsa we spoke to about the plan doesn't like it. They already have a lot of security on campus. One example -- push a button on a phone and it immediately connects to police. Students say things like that are enough.

I'm sure the journalism students randomly sampled students for their opinions.
No poll. Just a comment section, advertising, etc.
What is the difference between an adult carrying a gun at school, the mall, Luby’s , the movies, Church etc.? What makes a campus of adults special?
While I support anyone’s right to bear arms, this is not the solution to school violence. The solution is to stop medicating kids for mild behavioral problems. Going off the meds is what makes them go nuts.
It makes the professors worry about their health. Everybody knows exposure to guns tends to turn one into a raving lunatic. /sarc
The following link tells of a gun-related incident that took place on a Virginia campus (not VT incident) a few years back. Sadly, the article notes that most reports about the incident "overlooked" that the renegade student was not only disarmed by other students who had locked guns in their vehicles, but that the students disarmed the gun-shooting student before the police arrived at the scene.

So, do you support it or not?
Perhaps the problem is the use of the word "solution". Arms are not a intended to be solution to violence. They are rather an effective and appropriate ~response~ to violence.
Your other suggestions are good. But they won't solve it either. Nothing will. Some people will always fail to play nice with others. Best we can do then is to respond effectively. It has always been this way and it always will.
How many students could have been saved if only a teacher, student, janitor--somebody! had been there to take out the killer.
"Gun Free Zones" are magnets for these killers. They know they want be met with any resistance. There's a reason that these guys don't try to shoot up a gun show, an NRA or SAS meeting, a police barracks, etc.
I sure wish you folks would indicate ibn what state this great event is taking place.
OK. I see Tulsa, OK. OK
I'm sure the police would like to write it down in a log that a killer just walked into a room, locked the door and started shooting people one by one. By the time any security is at the scene there would be hardly anyone alive. In such a situation not just minutes matter, but seconds; and how long will it take for a group of officers to cover 2-3 miles of campus roads, enter the building and then locate room 3742A ? As I recall my university years, some rooms were well hidden by architects and generations of administrators. You can't just expect that a generic cop would instantly know where each one out of 10,000 rooms is located.
But the far more valuable effect of allowing all qualified gun owners to carry them on campus is that deranged maniacs will no longer see those campuses as their personal hunting ground. They might as well break into Camp Pendleton or Fort Knox, guns blazing, with about the same results.
Bump! ;-)
There are lots of reasons for people to go on murder sprees. The last line of defense is an armed citizen.
