McCain Mocks Obama's Iraq Comments
LA Times ^ | 2-27-08 | LIBBY QUAID

TYLER, Texas -- Republican presidential hopeful John McCain mocked Democrat Barack Obama on Wednesday for saying he would take action as president "if al-Qaida is forming a base in Iraq."

"When you examine that statement, it's pretty remarkable," McCain told a crowd in Tyler, Texas.

"I have some news. Al-Qaida is in Iraq. It's called `al-Qaida in Iraq,'" McCain said, drawing laughter at Obama's expense.

Obama quickly answered back, telling a rally at Ohio State University in Columbus, "I do know that al-Qaida is in Iraq."

"So I have some news for John McCain," he added, saying there was no al-Qaida presence in Iraq until President Bush invaded the country.

Noting that McCain likes to tell audiences that he'd follow Osama bin Laden to the "gates of hell" to catch him, Obama taunted: "All he (McCain) has done is to follow George Bush into a misguided war in Iraq."

McCain said he had not watched the Democratic presidential debate on Tuesday night but was told of Obama's response when asked if as president he would reserve the right to send U.S. troops back into Iraq to quell an insurrection or civil war.

Obama did not say whether he'd send troops but responded: "As commander in chief, I will always reserve the right to make sure that we are looking out for American interests. And if al-Qaida is forming a base in Iraq, then we will have to act in a way that secures the American homeland and our interests abroad."

Not “wishing” for anything...but as I said earlier, this clown is an empty suit and a friggin’ joke who was still in law school when we went to Iraq the first time. A lot he knows about anything outside of law school...how he got this far is laughable!

Barry's exactly right! When Abu Musab al-Zarqawi moved there in 2002, he just heading up a Cub Scout troop.

That’s the picture that should be saved to use extensively as November draws near. Should Hussein Obama win the nomination, of course.

Bumper Sticker.

“Obama says America wants change.
I want to keep more of my folding money.”

He’s not too good talking off the cuff.

The thing is, though, that he makes the stupidest statement sound positively erudite with his low voice and calm demeanor. Bugs the crap out of me, but it's true. He's slaying them in the aisles. I mean, "Change we can believe in"? Who else could pull off this crap?

One of the ongoing failures of the Bush administration was to allow a few Big Lies to get rolling and gain purchase in the collective consciousness of all the dumb voters out there. One was “Saddam had no WMD’s.” Another is this one, that al Qaeda had no presence in Iraq until we liberated the country. That’s not true, but the MSM has repeated it often enough that it’s become gospel, and not just to the kooky MoveOn left. We need to be as relentless and monotonous in repeating the truth as the liberals are in repeating their lies, and we haven’t been.

. . .saying there was no al-Qaida presence in Iraq until President Bush invaded the country.

Sad thing is, a lot of people will buy this drivel.

Obama is as quick on his feet as The Evil One. As has been noted in several article posted here at FR, when he veers away from the carefully choreographed cue cards of “vapid, empty eloquence”, he sounds very inexperienced, naive, lightweight, i.e empty suit.

For all McCain's faults, I do like the way he will go after Jr. No "new tone" garbage.

""So I have some news for John McCain," he added, saying there was no al-Qaida presence in Iraq until President Bush invaded the country."

What an ignorant moron! Al-Zarqawi and other members of al-Qaeda fled to Iraq after Afghanistan fell to the coalition forces. From Iraq they planned the assassination of diplomat Foley in Jordan and carried out that assassination. That was a direct attack on the USA from al-Qaeda based in Iraq before the start of the Iraq War.

I am so sick of uninformed and ignorant liberals and Democrats.

Actually, out of the 3 possibilities, I find Obama the least intolerable.

Have you paid any attention to the things that Obama said he would do as President? If so, please name them (and then tell me again, with a straight face, that he is the least intolerable).

It is just incredible that liberals seem to think that we are at war with ONLY Al-Queda. Why do they not understand that we are at war with Islamofascism

We're at war with Islam, since Islam has been at war with the non-Muslim world, the Dar-al-Harb or "world of war," for over 1300 years. It's a discomfiting thought which flies in the face of the bedrock liberal principle of religious relativism. So, like all liberal-discomfiting thoughts, it must be supressed.

Don’t call him “Hussein.” McCain will be deeply offended and apologize for your statement.

This is the single biggest cause of trouble for the last 8 years, bar none! 95% of the lefts rallying cries are total and unadulterated lies that could have been easily neutered. I HATE the new tone. This is a fight to the death.
