Wow, another conservative giant has left us. I didn’t agree with everything Bill Buckley said, but watching and listening to him flex the muscles of his intellect was a sight to behold.

I watched Buckley dismantle George McGovern at a public debate at the University of Florida back around 1990 or so, and he was dazzling. Even shook hands with McG at the end, I thought “nice to show mercy to those you have just vanquished”, lol

As brilliant as Rush Limbaugh is, I think that Buckley would have easily bested him if they had ever debated.

Rest In Peace Sir!

I agree. I recall a debate in which the actor, Dennis Weaver, was talking abut the environment and how we could change and that everything was capable of being improved. A typical progressive sentiment, that sounded reasonable. But Buckley immediately shot back in his coy, mischievous way, "Tell me Mr. Weaver, what changes would you make to improve the " Moonlight Sonata?" Weaver was clearly out of his element.

I don't think Limbaugh even compares to Buckley. Buckley was a one of a kind polymath. I'm sure God is going to enjoy his company.

Oh yeah, Rush apes him, and often slips into “Buckley mode,” imitating his aristocratic accent.
