I only caught some of the debate, but it was a disaster for Hillary Clinton. She skipped over questions that discomforted her--and boy, were there a lot of them. She was tedious, exhibiting an instinct for the capillaries that had to have had her supporters cringing in agony. Was it really worth it to whine about how she got the first question and then bring up the Saturday Night Live about the media showing favoritism towards Obama? To be sure, the skit was right and Hillary Clinton had reason to complain, but if she didn't actually believe that she would come out of that exchange looking badly, she has learned nothing whatsoever from her time on the campaign trail.
Equally horrible was the comment about how she just doesn't have time to release her taxes, or that Barack Obama was not sufficiently anti-anti-Semitic when he said that he "denounced" Louis Farrakhan as opposed to "rejecting" Farrakhan. Really, the whole thing was pathetic beyond measure. I know that it is common practice to believe that Hillary Clinton is The Smartest Woman In The World, or something along those lines. But her side of the debate looked clumsy, amateurish and dumb beyond measure.
Meanwhile, Obama was cool, confident, comfortable in his own skin and looked like a winner. I take no joy in writing that because I would much rather have John McCain face Hillary Clinton in the general election; it would be a far easier campaign for McCain to win, after all. But despite my earlier confidence that somehow, someway, Hillary Clinton would find a way to pull through, it is obvious that it's just not going to happen. One way or the other, Barack Obama will be the Democratic nominee.
And Republicans will be in for an epic battle. Don't believe me? Then read this. No, Barack Obama is not Ronald Reagan. But he stands to profit from being underestimated by his foes just as Reagan did. Perhaps someone would want to see to it that such a luxury is denied Obama.
Assuming that Republicans want to win, of course.
* Mega-smear of Obama (Clinton political machine will try to make something stick) * Somehow convincing (bribing) Edwards or Gore to endorse her.
Mega smear will definitely be attempted. She will/is also going for the Silky Pony/Goracle endorsements, but won’t get either. Edwards wants to back the winner so he can get a job. AlGore wants to drive a stake through BJ’s heart, and is using PIAPS as his surrogate.
McCain is, or will be the nominee. That’s the best you’re gonna get. Ronald Reagan he is not. But, as Rummy once said, “You don’t go to war with the army you want, you go to war with the army you got.”...............
That’s my theory too.
Tony Blankley has a good article today on this. Repubs needs to respond point by point on Obama with regard to the differences. Do not get into the experience issue or the issue of youth.
Obama is a flaming liberal. He wants to raise taxes, soft on our military etc.
ditto that but as impressive is the difference tween McCain and todays democrat............we first need to get McCain’s attention, stand him up so to speak, slap him if necessary, then don fatigues and fight the oncoming socialist/ marxist onslaught
I won’t vote for McCain, my time is better spent with supporting Congressional candidates. But I don’t think McCain is an automatic loser against Obama. It’s really to early to guage at this point till all the nasty stuff comes out.
You are right though, his VP pick will be critical.
That’s pretty much my take.
Hillary the Witch Lost Her Cool in Ohio Debate
The witch is almost dead. Not quite. But almost. Obama looked Presidential. Hillary looked and sounded like every mans' ex-wife. She acted like a the total b*tch.
Even the London Times commented negatively about her performance: 'Clinton Fails to Slow Obama Bandwagon.' Click the image for more . . .
I didn’t; read the transcript instead.
Haven’t paid much attention to Obama at all as I have no interest in voting for him ... but have started reading recent transcripts to figure out what he’s saying that is garnering so much support, studying him to figure out his supporters and what they may be prone to doing under various scenarios. This swooning, hysterical support for vapid content, veiled anti-Americanism, and near-messianic devotion has me concerned.
Too many Republicans, and Republican Party hangers-on, seem to feel that wanting to win is an unworthy and "unprincipled" goal.
How can Republicans ever hope to win a majority in Congress with so many declaring it is “unprincipled” to vote for RINOs?
The only way to constitute a majority is for good, decent conservatives all across this land, who have the misfortunate to live in RINO districts, to go ahead and vote R anyway, so that true conservatives from other areas can get into power.
Yet all the arguments people use to justify their refusal to vote for Republican nominee should apply down-ticket, right? A principle is a principle is a principle, right? In matters large and small?
If that’s the case, people can say buh-bye to the possibility of ever seating a Republican majority and, thereby, boosting at least some conservatives into congressional leadership positions.
The “my way or the highway” mentality is lethal to winning the presidency, and it’s just as threatening to candidates down-ticket.
The October Surprise in March!
Yeah, like Bubba released his medical records? Ha!
I was shocked that most everyone thought different.
To me, he looked like a rookie beside her.
I guess that's why I'm not an analyst.
Among all the mistakes Hildy made, and there were many, the parsing of words had to be the worst and most pathetic.
Is she clueless about the impact of the “what the meaning of is is” on our national psyche?
Does she not know that one of the biggest raps on her hubby’s legacy is the parsing of words?
She really does look sad and deflated in these photos.
But still clueless.
Didn’t see that-—that’s a wonderful exchange!
I don’t see this as an agenda to attack Hildy. Russert has always liked to dig up quotes and such and ask the guests to explain their new position, etc.
It’s just that Hildy has made herself ripe for the pickings. When you talk about bringing zillions of jobs to Ohio and you have lost jobs in your own state, you deserve to be pilloried.
You know, I'm thinking the Rats, and the nation as a whole, has learned a big lesson here about facilitating political runs by spousal units. At the least, Hildabeast should have figured out how she was going to use and refer to "her husband's administration" and stick with it. It's got to be galling to the feminazis to hear Hildy constantly hiding behind her hubby's pantsleg.
No I agree with you. Trouble is all we are seeing today are 5 sec. excerpts.
No, you must understand that the reason she doesn’t have time to release her tax returns is that it will take her three years to find them.
They are in the same rip in the time/space continuum that secreted her subpoenaed Rose Law Firm billings records for a conveniently interminable amount of time.
