I currently live in Pittsburgh. I was born and raised here. I refer to it as a polished turd. It looks all pretty now, but the inner operations of the city and surrounding towns make cancer and AIDS victims envious. It’s diseased.
The only thing I left that I love here (aside from friends and family) are the Pittsburgh Pirates....yes, a team that has suffered through 15 years of losing seasons is my only material love. The Steelers stole 2 of their 5 Super Bowls via steroids (yes, Dallas would have owned them)...the third stolen Super Bowl was mainly due to “The Jerome Bettis Story” (TM) ...Sorry Seattle.... and our rivers make yunzer puke look clean.
We lose 5% of our population every year....those are the smart ones! I’d go so far as advising people to move to Detroit before Pittsburgh! Hell, move to Zimbabwe before Pittsburgh!
If you are planning to retire, please, avoid Pittsburgh at all costs. I assure you that your remaining years will be miserable here. You’re better off retiring in a cess pool or Cleveland. This town is West Virginia in denial and hates new people. It is mainly due to inbreeding. This city is THE definition of living dead (ironically, Night of the Living Dead was filmed about 25 miles north in Elwood City). You have been warned.
Whoever made this list needs a Rose Kennedy lobotomy. Putting Pittsburgh on a list of places to retire demonstrates that one should not breathe.
That aside, Let’s Go Bucs!!!!! 2008! This is the year we get 69 wins!!!!! :)
(sigh)
PS I will soon be living in Texas....Texas is proof that there is a God :) :) !!!! No, I will not be bringing northern liberalism either :)!
Oh yeah these are not my cup of tea. I don’t like large tropical snakes, not being able to speak language or in case of one of their mini-wars with a rebellion- r they crazy?
Now for the US places, Pittsburg?, or Tucson, be sure to get a reverse osmosis system installed so you can redrink, recycle and reuse the Colorado river over and over and over. No thanks. Oh you could drink the cactus juice.
Please don’t get mad if you live there, because I am spoiled here in Mtns.
“Persoanlly I’ve thought the best place to retire would be one of those apartments in the outfield at Wrigly Field.”

Maybe a cot on top of that Budweiser building! Winters in AZ and a cot at HoHoKam.
that is some good info, thanks!
If you live in Orlando, you probably need to learn Spanish - the Spanish signs in the stores are as big as the English ones. If you move away from the resort areas, the stores can have a dingy, dirty look. I was also warned by several people to not visit certain areas of town. It just wasn’t safe.
A) Wonderful climate.
B) Dollar goes a long way.
C) Delicious fruits and vegetables year round.
D) House slaves.
I’m looking at Crescent City, maybe sooner rather than later. Panama, Uraguay, and Chile look attractive, too
Not sure about India any more, either. I was talking to a young colleague of mine from India the other day. He returned after after being in the states for 8 years and he didn’t recognize the place. He was describing how you drive through slums to enter the most luxurious gated communities with multimillion dollar mansions, lots of lawn and landscaping. It sounds like wages have risen so quickly in India with the rapidly growing middle class that it is no longer affordable.
The only place I’d consider in Fla. is the little town they shot “Doc Hollywood” in. Pacific Northwest? The towns they shot “Northern Exposure” and “Dante’s Peak”. Arizona? Flagstaff area. Texas is a real possibility. I like the no income tax. Might go for southern Nevada or Utah as well.
You are correct about 3. Orlando.
Orlando also has the slow traffic crawl in some areas.
Looks like you agree with the survey. The movie was shot in Micanopy, FL, county seat: Gainesville, FL.
The taxes in Pittsburgh are huge.
That was my initial reaction too.
Hell, I can see FL, plan on moving to NC, SC, or FL once the baby graduates high school, but Pittsburgh?
My husband would hate you for dissing his Steelers ;)
Shhhhh.
Don’t tell anyone about the less than $300 per year taxes where I live, with a beautiful mountain view and pristine lake nearby.
Just hush yer mouth now (grin). Please don’t advertise it. Let’s keep it to ourselves.
We’re having a downturn? I hadn’t noticed ... oh, wait a minute, I get it now. There’s an election coming and MSM want to scare baby boomers, who are now facing retirement, into voting for fascist (i.e., “Progressive”) candidates. Well, now that I understand, those are all great choices for people leaving their highest earnings years. Especially Portland, with a cost of living that is 14% above the national average. Yeah! Go to Portland!
