Florida Power & Light is reporting massive power outages throughout South Florida, including Miami, Doral, Westchester, and Pembroke Pines. Reports of outages extended into Palm Beach, an FPL spokeswoman said.
The company said it was investigating the problem.

From your link- talk about COMPETENCE!!

Federal regulators said they are proposing a $208,000 fine against Florida Power & Light Co. for security violations at the Turkey Point nuclear power plant.
The Nuclear Regulatory Commission said two violations were for ‘’willfully failing to properly equip’’ armed guards, one was for failing to make a report to the NRC within an hour and the final one was for providing the NRC with incomplete and inaccurate information,” reports the South Florida Business Journal.
No shite Sherlock........

I just love Steve Harrigan.
Looks like the site I found is a libby site...lol. The link to articles is there though. An interesting link to some dem congress critters trying to shut down the government security contractors in hearings..blah, blah, blah.
Maybe this was staged by the DEMONCRATS in order to bash the republicans and BLAME BUSH. It started in BROWARD COUNTY folks...lol
But if I read that right, and the story's accurate, this was just a really big glitch and the utility repsonded the way it was supposed to in order to limit any further damage to the grid?
Harrigan is either one of the bravest reporters, or the most foolish!
The Drama Queen on his way to Florida today? Hope he’s not driving.
At least Florida isn’t Guam. Guam’s power system is horrible. I was there in 1995 and, without warning, whole areas of the island would lose power. They called it “load shedding”. Guam Power and Light would cut off area of the island so other areas can have it. Then it’s rotated. It’s a mess. Don’t know how it is now on Guam but that’s how it was at least until 2000.
LOL
Fla. never lost their ties to the rest of the interconnection. There were some swings on the system but no problems.
My MIL finished hers 3 weeks ago and got the word just today from her doctor She is Cancer Free! C120 @ 700!
“Steve Harrigan just mentioned how in South Florida, you have all these folks with no licenses,& insurance, driving junkers.”
Really. For about 5 years I used to drive up early morning (<6AM) to MIA once a week or so from Islamorada. I would usually have a Dade County or Miami City cop living in Homestead/ FL City scream by me on the way to work. I would get in behind and just pedal down. I did over a hundred for miles and miles. He would light up if traffic and I just hanged in behind. Too funny. I talked to a few about this once in awhile and no big deal.
This lady on the TV now is the only FPL person I know that does not have a spanish accent.
See my 230 post. It is a libby site...lol. We ARE talking about BROWARD COUNTY! This plant was mentioned in some ‘hearings’ on capitol hill..The site even has ‘statements’ from all the dem candidates bashing Bush!
last year:
Arizona Nuclear Plant on Lockdown
PHOENIX (AP) The nation’s largest nuclear power plant was put on lockdown Friday after a contract worker entered the facility with something that security was “not comfortable with,” a spokesman said.
Security officials detained the worker at the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station and were conducting an investigation. The incident was considered an “unusual event” the lowest of four emergencies the plant can declare, said Jim Melfi, an inspector with the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission.
Officials did not say what the worker brought to the plant. There was no threat to the public, said Palo Verde spokesman Jim McDonald.
