LOS ANGELES The Oscars were a ratings dud. More so than usual, even.
Preliminary ratings for the 80th annual Academy Awards telecast were 14 percent lower than the least-watched ceremony ever, according to Nielsen Media Research.
Nielsen said Monday that overnight ratings were also 21 percent lower than last year, when "The Departed" was named best picture.
The least-watched Oscars ceremony ever was in 2003, when there were 33 million viewers.

Nielsen has no estimate yet on how many people watched Sunday night, but based on ratings from the nation's biggest markets, the Oscars will be hard-pressed to avoid an ignominious record.

With an unimpressive year for movies, I’m not surprised few people watched.
‘Ratatouille’ was the real Best Picture...but how could they give the award to a format that’s going to replace them all within ten years? ;)
Who won?
Europe - got best: actor, actress, supporting actor and supporting actress
I never watched a minute of it. Too high expectation of liberal, anti-Bush propaganda.
Oscars? When was that?
Seriously I had no idea it was even happening... LOL!
What happened with that? I fired up the DVR last night to see the Simpsons and saw lots of cars turning left.
The Oscars award show is like the Democratic party. It longer appeals to straight white men. I personally have no interest in it, nor do, I suspect, most straight guys.
” who won? “
Who cares ;-)
Hollywood is like the oil rich terrorists: they make their money off of America and channel a portion of that money into anti-Americanism. Whether they’re selling films or oil, a part of the money is funding projects that are against the principles America stands for, are fighting for and whose efforts help protect freedom loving people around the world.
I have not seen the Oscars since “The Battle of Hoth” in The Empire Strikes Back was shown for Best Special Effects.
“Enchanted” made 50 million dollars in it’s opening weekend. Disney dropped the ball on merchandise and advertising. It’s still showing in theaters and opened back in November. People like it, the establishment doesn’t.
Three songs from that movie, penned by hit composers for Disney were up. Want to guess which one was the winner?
Not a single one of them.
Did Transformers win? Or Harry Potter? Or 300 win? They were the only movies I watched all year.
who won?
who cares?
Uber-liberal Jon Stewart hosting a show where an uber-liberal industry congratulates itself and gives itself awards for uber-liberal products.
I skipped it with a vengence.
...who are captured by the US Military and tortured at Abu Ghraib. Wouldn't be Oscar worthy without that last bit.
- I keep saying I can't wait to see a new John Wayne or Humphrey Bogart movie
I've got some bad news for you - you might get computers to replace the actors but you will have the current batch of writers, producers and directors. Computer-Bogart will give up his cigarette for a carrot and Computer-John Wayne will star in Brokeback Mountain 2.
Whats an oscar?....Stupid me!...hot dogs, of course!
You know it sux when Tom and Katie only show up for the after-parties.....LOL!
