I got to know more than a few girl-friends over a month or so and thought I knew them too. Boy was I wrong.

Okay, I'll interject here that I grew up in the GOP in a rock-ribbed conservative Texas family: my late father founded our county Republican party, my brother worked at the RNC in Washington for years, and I work in the media. I know Mike Huckabee personally, have known him for about eight years, and have even had dinner sitting next to him at the head table of the Governor's Mansion in Little Rock. I know him well enough that when I attended his rally in Plano, Texas, last week, his daughter saw me in the crowd and personally escorted me backstage to visit. And I can tell you that virtually everything that gets said on FR about his beliefs, his character and his record is 100% slanderous bilge.

Posters on this board have no problem with calling people vicious names and attributing the worst possible motives to them when they've never met them and know nothing about them other than some nasty, one-sided election year hit pieces they haven't bothered to research. And they never see their own contradictions: they can go straight from condemning Huckabee because "he's only in the race to help McCain" to condemning Huckabee because "he's only staying in the race to be McCain's VP" to condemning Huckabee because "his staying in the race is hurting McCain," and each of these ever-shifting, contradictory statements is made with an arrogant and absolute certainty, despite them not having the slightest clue about the man and his motives.

I supported Huckabee from day one, when other Freepers were flitting from one fantasy "perfect conservative" to another, from the messiah Fred Thompson, whom I warned them would be a disappointment before he ever got into the race and was told I was "WRONG!" (I wasn't) to Mitt Romney, who would get crushed in a general election in the current public mood (don't bother telling me I'm "WRONG," because I'm not). And I'm glad I still get the chance to vote for him in Texas, whether it does any good or not. I'll hold my nose and vote McCain in November if I have to, but there's no way the New York Times is telling me that the GOP candidate has already been chosen by New Hampshire and DC before Texans even get a say in the matter.

BTW, I'm not an evangelical, I'm an agnostic; and I disagree with Huckabee on several key issues. But he's still the most electable and most qualified candidate, the only one left with real executive experience, and the only one with the wit, crossover outsider appeal and oratorical skills to compete with Obama. If it's McCain vs. Obama, we're looking at Bob Dole II.

Thank you for further confirmation of what my research had already showed me. Several weeks ago I was home with the flu and spent about 3 days researching Huckabee. Once I got past all the propaganda about him (and I did LOTS of research), he was my candidate and got my vote and my support.

For the few that still have open minds for research, check out this report on The Club for Growth’s attacks on Huckabee:

Plus, politifact may open some eyes about who has been lying the most...

[BTW, I’m not an evangelical, I’m an agnostic; and I disagree with Huckabee on several key issues.]

I’m not an evangelical, I am a Christian who beleives the Bible is true and the GOD of Israel is the Creator of all things in heavens and earth and created mankind on the earth. Evangelical is a new age term for those who like to feel good about themselves and refuse to believe that the Son of God is Jesus Christ. Evangleicals are to Christianity what rinos are to conservatism for the most part and many are blatant liberals.
And, Lord willing, the GOP will split so that conservatives will begin a conservative party with conservative politicians and stop trying to fix the barrel of rotten apples the GOP has become. Also, you have a right to be agnostic but God hates that also as the heavens and the earth declares His glory and men love darkenss rather than light because their deeds are evil.
And agnostics are of those same men.

I met Mike at the first Freeper Inaugural Ball for Bush in 2000. He was playing bass for the band. He seemed like a good dude.

Following the situation in Arkansas, I realize he took over for the disgraced governor that had to step down.

I was predisposed to like Mike and support him. Then I started noticing folks from Arkansas that were not as favorable to him as I was.

They brought up points that made sense to me. At this point in time, I don’t see Mike as you do.

I appreciate you defending Mike. If you see him as you have described, you should.

I do think Mike has a certain flair that McCain will lack, and agree that he might be a better person in a campaign against the democrat nominee based on that aspect of him.

I don’t necessarily disagree with your take on some of the other candidates. I will admit, I’m not predisposed to sign on to your program with Mike, but that’s okay.

You take care. I appreciate your comments.

Thanks for the post. My support for Huckabee came only when it came down to him and McCain. When Texas votes, I'll be voting Huckabee. I personally have great respect for this guy because he is giving me the chance to vote against the presumptive nominee the RNC is trying to cram down my throat. I hope the rest of the states get the same opportunity.

In the last two brokered conventions for both parties, the elected candidates lost. However, in 1932 the brokered convention of the Democrat party produced a winning candidate... FDR. Parties hate brokered conventions. They are "messy" and worrisome. There is a real possibility that both parties could have brokered conventions this year. I am not sure that's ever happened. Regardless, I am thankful to Huckabee for hanging in there to provide "me" with a voice. For that, I have deep respect toward the man.
