1200- WOAI ^ | 02/22/08 | Jeff Forsyth

Posted on 02/22/2008 4:42:09 AM PST by torchthemummy

In an interview with 1200 WOAI news during his swing through Texas, longshot Republican presidential candidate Mike Huckabee outlined a strategy which has him not winning the GOP nomination outright, but pushing the nomination to the September Republican National Convention, which he says will turn to him as the most ‘conservative alternative.’

Fantasyland folly - Romney’s Delegates will all go to McCain.

It’s over. Accept it.

They would know. It would be one better than McCain for them. It would be Huckabee. None of the guys that fell on their swords are coming back. That’s why this guy is hanging on. He can accept the deal since he never quit. The quitters are out. Interesting how both the remaining choices (and it’s going to be McCain or Huckabee you can bank on that) are both pro go easy on illegals.

The dems already got their wish - a McCain candidacy. At this point, I’m praying that we get another nominee at the convention. It’s our only hope.

Do you really think that a majority of Republicans would go with Huckabee? Not only will the moderate republicans be pissed off but bye-bye any independents. Huckabee has had a niche with evangelical votes. And yes McCain has had his niche of some pro-military conservatives, moderate Republicans and Independents. Now does anyone believe that a completely different nominee two months before the election will excite enough Republicans to make up for lost Independents?

Huckabee's plan only comes into fruition IF he wins Texas and Ohio. But when he doesn't will he then drop out or will he "soldier on" due to a new excuse for hanging around.

Those that vote for Huckabee now as a protest - that's your right and so be it. In fact those that do I believe don't neccessarily want the Republicans to lose but are at the same time resigned to the idea of a loss so "I'll vote my conscience." Fine. But if you try to convince me that Huckabee is doing this out of love for his political party or the American people or...whatever...then you grossly illinformed.

Yes, all the Romney types who ranted that Huck was just cover for McCain proved to have been the ones who couldn't see the real picture. It was their guy who played that role and dropped out as soon as the most viable challengers were squeezed out by the McCain-Romney team.

I never said any of those things. I think Huckabee is as sleazy as they come too. At this point - I just want something/anything to happen to remove McCain. He is the worst possible choice.

Anybody willing to sell out their principle to vote for McCain is part of the problem at this point in time.

How can it be a “wide open” convention? McLame will have enough delegates by then to win without a brokered convention. We will get what we deserve (at least 4 years of a Socialist president).

(A Huckabee victory)would keep the Democrats off balance since they would not know for certain who the nominee was going to be.

Check into the nuthouse...

Please define evangelical? If you know the actual meaning you should realize that the evangelicals are a small voting block.

"I think his real strategy is to hope McCain croaks before the convention, leaving him as the default.

Or gets in a snit about something and throws a major temper tantrum in front of the cameras. That could still happen.

I'm not crazy about the Huckster, but I'd much rather get stuck with him than McCain.

You beat me to it. He certainly strikes me as lazy and one case where the DNC talking point were right. Anyone who put their hopes on him was betrayed by his miserable half-hearted performance. He belongs back in Hollywood.

I actually like Fred; I liked him better 10 years ago. But I don’t blame him. I’ve seen his wife, so I can understand why he’s tired. (I’d want her to wear me out, too)

“Yes, all the Romney types who ranted that Huck was just cover for McCain proved to have been the ones who couldn’t see the real picture.”

umm it was Huck that made it all possible with his backroom dealings with McCain. Huck is out too, he just isn’t telling his politically naeive supporters. He too will support McCain.

Please, if The Huckster really thought he could win this, he’d be going after McCain. I have seen no evidence of this throughout the entire campaign - certainly not to extent that he went after Romney. If he actually got tough on McCain’s positions, not just his polite little double speak when asked about the differences, he would be more believable.

I guess you have not see the latest headlines from Right Wing News. 25% of conservative bloggers say they won’t vote for McCain in Nov.
