McCain Says Report on Lobbyist Not True

TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) -- John McCain denied a romantic relationship with a female telecommunications lobbyist on Thursday and said a report by The New York Times suggesting favoritism for her clients is "not true."

"I'm very disappointed in the article. It's not true," the likely Republican presidential nominee said as his wife, Cindy, stood alongside him during a news conference called to address the matter.

McCain described the woman in question, lobbyist Vicki Iseman, as a friend.

The newspaper quoted anonymous aides as saying they had urged McCain and Iseman to stay away from each other prior to his failed presidential campaign in 2000. In its own follow-up story, The Washington Post quoted longtime aide John Weaver, who split with McCain last year, as saying he met with lobbyist Iseman and urged her to steer clear of McCain.

Not just Obama, but the Uma Abedin/Hillary question and the Edwards affair...all ignored by the NYT despite having more substance.

(but looks guilty) is not in the original headline.

Nice editorial comment on your part, Teddy.

If it was certainly fatal, the media would have not been able to resist the temptation to take him out long ago.

There is a lot of time between now and Novemeber. Build mc up, secure mc the nomination, then begin to take mc down, was the plan all along. Media is starting up early, and one can bet an October surprise is already set to be released. Lots of time, more will come, before October ....

Its not every day they can hang the scalp of a Republican Senator on their belt.

Never underestimate the power in the old media. Most people, in our nation, still believe the old media...the old media almost secured gore in 2000 by calling Florida (falsely)...mho

I totally agree. But it could back lash on the Democrats if McCain picks Kerry for VP. I don’t put it pass the happy back slapping McCain.

Joe Scarborough is still on tv talking about this. Seems this is the start of the study and no where near the end yet. The media is truly going to make obama president.

LOL, regardless of who votes and doesn’t vote, Rush has battled harder against the liberal MSM/DNC, than McCain, by far.

Exactly... They see McCain as more threatening to Conservatism then Obama....

and fail to see just how utterly ignorant that assessment is..

Oh well Conservatives are approaching a long dark winter some of us will be dead and buried before it is revived again good luck with that...

So what was proven with the keating five????

Bugger off on this one, buddy!

The fault in your argument is your assumption that he media would care about the truth. By the time the media is done retelling the story of the Keating Five, most people will think McCain is worse than Hitler.

Someone told me on FR that McPain had an affair way back, maybe c. early ‘80s. Otherwise never heard about those kinds of things with McStain.

It could be this is all overblown (may not be what it seemed), but I’m not 1 to just act hypocritical and dismiss or excuse it out of hand. I hated Clinton for this and I don’t excuse it in Republicans.

We’ll see what happens.

“That said, this “story” is poorly sourced, and is probably not true.”

It quotes anonymous ex-staff members. I suppose you could call that poorly sourced, but how else would you get a story like this? I think the NYT has more and you’ll see it drip out.

Next comes the “friend” of the lobbyist saying she confided in her. Then a staff member...

I wonder if this is the setup, with the coup de grace (some kind of “proof”) waiting in the wings.

I put “proof” in quotes because the NYT is not exactly well-known for their slavish devotion to exact truthfulness. (/understatement)

If that’s what they’re doing, he’s probably in SOME trouble: but you need to also consider that like with ‘Rats, a lot of the RINOs would not consider an affair to be that far out of line. I still think it’s probably a case of “print it, repeat it often enough, and people will connect dots that aren’t even there and do the lying for you.”

WE had to get Algore out of the way, At the time, the GOP was one determined unit and we won by the squeak of every available Conservative healthy enough to vote.

The MSM is quite predictable and some of us warned that it would not be long when they turned against their alleged “Maverick” whom they loved so much.

There is no such love for any Republican, Conservative or RINO where the MSM is concerned.

The GOP needs to dump him and get someone else fast. There ain't no other way.

Finally someone is making sense of the whole fiasco. Anything is possible.
