TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) -- John McCain denied a romantic relationship with a female telecommunications lobbyist on Thursday and said a report by The New York Times suggesting favoritism for her clients is "not true."
"I'm very disappointed in the article. It's not true," the likely Republican presidential nominee said as his wife, Cindy, stood alongside him during a news conference called to address the matter.
McCain described the woman in question, lobbyist Vicki Iseman, as a friend.
The newspaper quoted anonymous aides as saying they had urged McCain and Iseman to stay away from each other prior to his failed presidential campaign in 2000. In its own follow-up story, The Washington Post quoted longtime aide John Weaver, who split with McCain last year, as saying he met with lobbyist Iseman and urged her to steer clear of McCain.

In the end this will help McCain!
IMO, he gets thousands and thousands of new independent voters as supporters!
;-)
So many know that this hack attack is wrong and unfair!
YES
I’m know McCain fan, can’t stand him in fact, but what I hate even more is the NYT, slime and unnamed sources. If you have something to say then have the guts to name yourself.
I’m pretty disgusted right now at the many FReepers who are willing to pick up this story and run with it just because of their dislike of McCain. Just shows we are no better than they are.
Bingo!
Even the Democrats at the NY Readers Comments section are posting for McCain!
;-)
Oh Rush, you get to be “right” again. /extreme s
Bingo! McCain was the darling of the media for the past eight years because he was destroying the Republican Party from within. Now that he’s accomplished that goal, and will face a leftist, commie Democrat in the general election, the same press will turn on him with a vengeance. Serves him right, in my opinion. I’m not gonna shed any tears for him.
Why didn’t the Times publish this crap two months ago? Because if they had, McCain would have lost the nomination, and they didn’t want that.
This is not about sex, but influence peddling. Have you read the NYT article?
Have to say that this little to-do over a perceived attraction that could have possibly developed between McCain and a woman lobbyist, who could’ve passed for his wife’s sister in the looks department, looks all innocence compared to past sexual scandals played out before such a jaded American political audience.
I’m no McCain fan, but...good grief, NYT, that’s really pathetic.
Ok- since you seem to dislike Rush- we can take him out of the equation for the sake of argument.
This is about the NYT’s and their clear manipulation of the GOP primary process. They had this story (whatever it’s trying to tell us about McCain) BEFORE IOWA.
That is the STORY here.
If this is such a non-story why has McCain retained WA Super Lawyer Bill Bennett?
Go soak yours. McCain is horrible candidate, but NOT because of some trumped NYT lie. He’s horrible because of all he’s done on record. Go flame someone else.
If you think the story isn't true, then why did you put "(poster's opinion: looks guilty)" in the title? I'm not a McCain fan, but it looks like you're doing a good job of poisoning the well.
Imagine it’s a question of finding the most trusted lawyer with the most potential to get to the “truth”?
If you think the story isn’t true, then why did you put “(poster’s opinion: looks guilty)” in the title? I’m not a McCain fan, but it looks like you’re doing a good job of poisoning the well.
I think the story is true. Someone inserted “poster’s opinion” into my (”but looks guilty”) headline.
McCain has rarely missed an opportunity to sabotage the GOP. In return, the media drooled over him and made him into the powerful force he is. It was a symbiotic relationship. Every time he screwed us, the press praised him, so he screwed us more in order to get more praise and media support.
Well, now that he’s got the nomination, the media have decided that they prefer the even more left-wing Democrat candidates, so their love affair with McCain is over. He brought this on himself by his behavior over the past eight years. Maybe he’s totally innocent in this particular case, but he’s learning that if you live by the liberal press, you can die by it as well. Poetic justice, in my opinion.
Bob Bennett. Not Bill. Big difference
I really don’t care if it is true.
I’ve read the article. Not much to hang their hat on.
Of more interest is who put the McCain stuff out to the press. Who gains the most - GOP opponents of McCain or Democrats doing the Monica payback?
I actually think this may help McCain, at least for right now.
