This is a stupid move by the House Dems. However, Bush extended the existing law by Exec Order IIRC. Two issues that the libs have. First is that because of the interconnectivity of communication, ANY communications that pass through the US must be handled with the utmost (legally) care (thanks to the anti-vietnam war bunch). The law the House let sunset permitted US recipients of calls from overseas to be monitored within the streamlined system. Further allowed comms 'passing through' the US to be monitored. Second bite was that the House wants communications companies to be subject to law suits for cooperating with the government.

On Sept 11, 2001 - the Dems cried out why the dots were not connected! The First was the Gorlick 'WALL' that prevented interaction between CIA and FBI. The second reason was that the dems didn't want to update the laws for monitoring terrorists that were based upon the old rotary dial phone era. The blood will be on the Dems hands if this results in our intel not being able to collect the data needed to stop the next attack.

They were responsible for the first series of attacks...

they won’t care about this move and will only blame Bush for their faults again.
