How does all of this match with the historical trend? That is, as others have pointed out, the sun goes through 11-year cycles. How does the recent data compare with 11 years ago?

Do you know anything about acidic ocean currents? The Seattle Times had a front page article about the fact that acidic water had been detected off the west coast, and of course it was blamed on green house gases.

Here is a chart for measured solar flux values since the late 1950s (when scientist started measuring same as an indicator of solar activityi.e. how hot it is).
Looking at that chart, it would seem that several years at a solar minimum isn't all that unusual. SC18 dropped below 100 around '52 and SC 19 was back above by '56. SC19 dropped under 100 around '62 and SC 20 (which didn't break 200 at its maximum) was up '68-ish. And so forth.
We look to have been in that state since around '04, so unless things drag out to next year this may not be all that unusual.
Even at a glance, SC23 could be said to have a lot less "under the curve" that either SC21 or 22 before it ... so it's not surprising that we've seen no warming this last decade (or even slight cooling) till last year when things began to be noticed (snow in either Jerusalem and Baghdad can really get folk's attention, never mind in both).
The only real reason to be concerned (about global cooling) comes from theoretical science that allows that there are cycles in solar activity longer than 11 years and on which the shorter cycle is more or less imposed (there is a link to something to that effect back in post #120).
These ideas are based on observations of sunspots (for which we have data going back for several hundred years) among other thing (like evidences for what pre-climate science climate was).

I’m not going to pretend I know much (or even a lot of a little).
It looks like some are blaming it on acid rain from ordinary pollution while others are blaming it on warming because of absorbed gases into the water.
However, I’m a bit doubtful of the latter because warmer waters are actually less able to absorb and retain gases than cooler waters are. Global warming, where the oceans warm too, in and of itself should lead to less acidic water.
In the meantime we have measured slight drops in ocean temps world wide, though I can’t see how the small values measured could do much of anything. In theory though, a cold ocean can hold more gases in solution than a warm one.

I read somewhere that they were experimenting with pumping excess C02 into the ocean to get rid of it. Could this be the cause?

Ohhhhh! I had FORGOTTEN about THAT! Hehe ... well, it’s right up there with wanting to spread coal tar on the ice caps to fight global cooling and fend off a new ice age (an actual ‘70s era idea) if they did.
