I said it earlier, I really don't give a damn what the people of Berkley think. I already know what they are. Socialist/Communists. For every one of these wack job communities in Cali and the big cities, we have hundreds of small true conservative areas of our country still in touch with reality.
Personally, I have have never heard anything as vile and anti-USA and liberal as I have tonight. I learned a great lesson tonight. No matter how bad our R representative is, it can be 100% better than any liberal.
I was not going to vote for McCaine until tonight. No matter what, he can not be as bad as these people.

Councilmember 1: We owe an apology. Positive practical support. Allow veterans to use our veteran's building. (What a concept!)
Councilmember 2: Lies. Bush owes an apology. Suppression of free speech. Money, money, why does the military get the money. Protect our young people from being lied to. Turns their back on our healthcare. Fabrications and lies continue to flow. Elevated the Viet, uh Iraqi war. I don't support this out of fear of reprisals because that jerk senator in SC.
Councilmember 3: An apology is due. Councilmembers said Marines lie. "Uninvited guests" we welcomed the action of the protestors gave full weight of the city. They guard our embassies. I'd like to see people from Berkeley there. The right to choose is inviolate. We should not impede it and not be harrassed. We've embarrassed our city. Done in a sense of arrogance. Double speak. We insulted them. To err is human, to really screw up takes the Berkeley City Council.
Councilmember Olds: I'm sorry the majority of my collegues voted for this. Felt shame. Not productive for the city. Not spending our time on essential services. My brother was a Marine in WWII. The war is not the issue. Insulting the Marines is not effective. We should be putting our efforts on DC. Everyone register to vote and get those war mongers out of office. An apology is in order to the City of Berkeley for all the time we've wasting on this.
Capitelli: Prepared statement. I know I offended many people. I made a mistake. I support the actions of those opposed to the Iraq war. My actions undermined the rights of the Marine Corp. Our country is on a slippery slope. Noam Chomsky paraphrased. 31,000 communications received. Crude obscene and mean-spirited. Berkeley citizens have been reasoned. How dare I presume to speak for all of Berkeley? Potentially dangerous for government to provide priviledges to one group over another. My decision is not made under threat. Support the rights of people you don't agree with.
Councilmember Worthington: We understand their message. Caving into extreme right wing pressure, not one right wing person contacted us. We were offensive. Merge both resolutions. Not apologize for supporting the peace movement. Point 2 of item 12. Concilman Moore: We recognize the right of the recruiters. No need to send a memo to the Marine Corps.
Spring: The Bill of Rights, freedome of speedch never intended for corporations. Money at their disposal to get their point across. They don't have freedom of speech the way individuals do. Is the council subsidizing a permit. We have the right to do it. We don't have to apologize to the federal government. The right wing media will say we are against the troops. We've gone with the mantra "support the troops, hide the war." Nurenberg principles and the Geneva agreement we cannot agree with immoral purposes. Our troops cannot use that arguement either. They are not in the interests of the American people. Exxon, Chevron, Halliburton, torture for the last 30 years. Millions of people. Stop the years of the corrupt machine. We burn a light for the rest of the world. Anderson: You speak for me, Donna.
Maio: So much pain over the war. A war under failed leadership in the beginning. Lack of training. Torture. Poor veterans programs. No health care. Failure. Failure. How can we in good conscience accept recruitment. Everyone feels this. Honor the people who have gone. Because we have this badly thought out war. I do not support recruitment in my town. Bush is at the top, believe it or not. We oppose recruitment. It's behavior we oppose, not the people. Accept item 1. Substitute item 2 substitute City of Berkeley are strongly opposed to war in Iraq. Millions of Iraqi people 100s of billions could have been spent on our own people.
