The McCain Mutiny

Republicans: George Bush insists John McCain is a true conservative. James Dobson says he's not. Meanwhile, Newsweek predicts "there will be blood" in the GOP. We predict a Republican president. There has to be.
McCain wasn't our first choice, but in the field that remains, he's the best choice. It would be disastrous for America if those conservative purists who'd make the perfect the enemy of the good let America go down a path from which it might not recover. President Bush, speaking on "Fox News Sunday," responded "absolutely" to host Chris Wallace's question of whether John McCain was a "true conservative." McCain is "very strong on national defense," is "tough fiscally," "believes the tax cuts ought to be permanent" and is "pro-life," Bush noted.
For Obama and Hillary, none of the above apply.
Bush did say, "I think that if John is the nominee, he has got some convincing to do to convince people that he is a solid conservative." Indeed he does, as evidenced by Mike Huckabee's win in the Nebraska caucuses over the weekend.
McCain has done well in primaries where independents could vote for him. In caucuses dominated by party activists, he's done poorly. The caucuses of Maine, Minnesota, Alaska, Colorado, Montana, North Dakota, Nevada and Wyoming were all won by Romney. One might dub McCain the "rebel without a caucus."
Ann Coulter may vote for Hillary Clinton, but we will not. The time for Coulters and the true believers to have rallied behind Mitt Romney was before Super Tuesday. It is by waiting for the next Reagan that they've risked sticking us with the next Clinton.

The GOP needs to get behind Huckabee. Hes the compromise
Please. Open your eyes, the man is the most disliked Republican candidate in many many states.
He is the candidate still in the race who pulls SINGLE DIGITS support numbers in some states.
He is not presidential and will never be President.

Also notice that this is one of the few times and IBD article gets a lot of response because it came supporting McCain, and vast majority of “vocal” freepers do not like it.
PS: IBD has the most powerful and logical editorials in America.

I would rather lose than unite around McCain, who’s done more damage to our country than both Clintons combined.

I could have voted for Mitt (grudgingly), Huck (very grudgingly), Brownback (reluctantly), Gilmore (with little problem), Tommy Thomspon (without worry), Fred (without holding my nose), Tancredo (without many qualms) or Hunter (enthusiastically). Were these conservatives and moderate-righties too much to ask for?

I loved Reagan, but someone needs to get a wake up call. He compromised as all Presidents must. Sure Reagan compromised...but his election wasn't the result of multiple acceptable canddates being eliminated one by one leaving the worst (or second worst) as the only option.

I agree. Hillary would at least try to appease conservatives for appearance sake. McCain would simply walk right over us.

Funny that all of you McCain supports are the ones that say we need to put Reagan behind us, there will never be another Reagan. Truth is, you like McCain and others like him and would vote against the next Reagan.
I decided that I would never vote for John McCain 10 years ago. I feel even more strongly about it now.

Pundits really miss the importance of volunteers. Sure a lot of conservatives will hold their nose and vote, but they will NOT I repeat NOT man the phones for McCain, or hold signs or smile while they do it. They wont do any of a million things the campaign needs. With no grass roots energy it will lose.
