TOLEDO, OH -- Mayor Carty Finkbeiner on Friday ordered some 200 members of Company A, 1st Battalion, 24th Marines from Grand Rapids, Michigan, out of Toledo just before the unit was supposed to start a weekend of urban warfare training downtown.
The mayors spokesperson, Brian Schwartz said, the mayor asked them to leave because they frighten people. He did not want them practicing and drilling in a highly visible area."

Rat Fink mayor.
I hope they make a law that if the cities don’t want the soldiers in THEIR city - They WILL lose federal funds!
It’s as simple as that - No support for military - not money for cities’ pork!
the mayor asked them to leave because they frighten people.
you cannot make this stuff up.
It seems like it would be more equitable to simply refuse to defend the city should the need ever arise...
I think the mayor has a good point.
Unless the public was completely aware of what was going on, a tragedy could result.
I’m not defending Toledo, but the situations seem rather different. Berkeley called the Marines unwanted intruders, doesn’t want them recruiting there, and gave the pinkos a free parking pass and noise permit. Toledo doesn’t want urban warfare exercises conducted in the city.
I’ve never heard of the Marines conducting urban warfare exercises in real cities before. Is this a first?
“Toledo doesnt want urban warfare exercises conducted in the city.”
Actually, the mayor offered the Marines two unpopulated sites.
Toledo has not rejected the U.S. Marines.
I didn't know he was still around
There are certainly better experts on this subject than I, but I do know the answer is no, marines have conducted urban warfare exercises in real cities before.
If they do it in an area where there are going to be civilians around they give plenty of advance warning, and get permission of the local authorities, as they thought they had in this case.
“If they do it in an area where there are going to be civilians around they give plenty of advance warning”
How do you warn everyone possible about the harmless meaning of urban gunfire? It seems to me like an unnecessarily risky practice if a more controlled setting is available.
This is not surprising. The ONLY good thing to come out of Toledo was the greatest jazz pianist that ever lived, Art Tatum...
This is not as bad as what Berzerkley did, but it seems to be part of the trend of local officials thumbing their noses at the military.
The public could have been made aware of the training. I work at an airport and often first responders and fire fighters do practice drills on planes that are retired. Airline employees are recruited to be “victims” etc... This could be a horrifying sight to passengers, but everyone including inbound planes are given the heads up as to what is happening when they see the smoke and “wreckage”. There’s no reason that this could not have been done in Toledo. I would think it would be more assuring than frightening to see how well trained our military are. As far as offering them other facilities the Marines said they were not aware of such an offer. I’d believe them before I would believe the loony tunes mayor. I think the mayor was just trying to cover his own butt when he said that. He gets no pass from me on this.
I highly doubt that they would be using live ammunition.
I looked at his web page. He was doing stupid things like suggesting that Toledo move deaf people to housing around the airport. You can see some more of his liberal goofiness here http://www.politicalwhore.com/?cat=11
And we let that city be taken over by radical muslims. After a few mayors get beheaded, the rest will fall in love with the devil dogs.
Because they would FRIGHTEN PEOPLE?
Are you f***ing kidding me?
Seeing Marines in action makes me feel safe and confident about our country’s future, not frightened.
like suggesting that Toledo move deaf people to housing around the airport
Thanks, I’m still laughing.
