Senators Introduce Semper Fi Act of 2008.
Bill Stops Berkeley Earmarks and Transfers Funds to Marine Corps.
The bill would rescind over $2 million in hidden earmarks for Berkeley, California in the 2008 Omnibus Appropriations bill, and transfer the funds to the Marine Corps. U.S. Congressman John Campbell (R-California) is introducing a companion bill in the House of Representatives.
Last week, the City Council of Berkeley voted to oust Marine Corps recruiters from their downtown office, saying the Marines were "uninvited and unwelcome intruders." Berkeley officials also voted to give the radical protest group Code Pink space outside the recruitment office and urged them to "impede, passively or actively" the work of Marine Corps recruiters.
One earmark provides $243,000 in taxpayer dollars for the organization Chez Panisse to create gourmet organic school lunches in the Berkeley School District. Chez Panisse is dedicated to "environmental harmony" and their menu features "Comté cheese soufflé with mâche salad," "Meyer lemon éclairs with huckleberry coulis," and "Chicory salad with creamy anchovy vinaigrette and olive toast."

Errrrr, I believe you'll find that he has endorsed McCain! I have a difficult time handling this when I don't see there was any reason (other than the fact that he wants something from a McCain administration, of course) for my Senator to endorse any candidate. Cornyn is a Republican and I expect that he would work to get any Republican nominee elected AFTER that person has gotten the nomination - not before. His endorsement of McCain does not garner my vote for McCain but makes me suspicious of Cornyn's motives.
What does he want? No decision like this taken in a vacuum.
As a chef I can tell you this is a lot of fancy smancy words for:
A cheese souffle' with a mixed baby type spinach; Meyer lemons (which are grown in No. Cal),made into a lemon custard and filled into an eclair and dressed with a huckkeberry sauce; and Chicory (a bitter green usually dried and put into coffee as an expander)but in this case served raw with a fishy vinegar dressing.. all in all pretty yukky!
Many of us are doing just that :
work for conservative congressmen ...
Thanks.
It is good that we are pushing back.
Signed
That’s why I wanted chili on it.
Amen to that!! DeMint for President!! At least we know he cares about us and our military!!
I saw this idiot “gourmet” chef that the schools hired on TV, whining that the mean old Republicans wanted to starve children. Can’t those commies come up with another lie?
Don’t forget the Tobasco.
Frankly I wished he had stayed on his peanut plantation. Some folks in the Culinary Profession are so brain washed it is diabolical!
Yup! and on that stupid load of garbage you will need a lot of TABASCO!
Did you see the cost of that garbage on their menu, hell the 243 grand would only feed them for a couple of months depending on how many buy school lunch! I'd like to own that restaurant, jeeze what a rip-off!
Just like those rats to do that in the name of Environmentalism..
Now, as I said before I see the need to strip the city of Berkeley of federal funds as a result of this action. But the
university is not part of the city. It is an
independent entity that is neither accountable to nor
controlled by the city. In fact, I hear from friends
that go there that the university and city usually have
a very adversarial relationship. In addition, the
university both allows recruiters on campus and has a
ROTC program. And last but not least, most students
aren’t registered to vote in the city of Berkeley but
in their home towns, so they can hardly be held to
account for the actions of the former.
I second that!
‘Republican Congressman Ted Poe of Texas, fumed on the House floor recently that the city had a “’60s peacenik, hippie mentality that world peace can occur by sitting around smoking dope and banging on the tambourine.”’
