Fred Thompson, the one-time Republican presidential candidate, endorsed Sen. John McCain Friday, calling on the party to "close ranks" behind the presumed nominee

Thank God Bush was able to appoint two US Supreme Court judges. That’s all we got going for us for the next four to eight years.
Ever heard of a political upset?
“in retrospect I suspect his entry and exit were a choreographed means of consolidating support for McCain by fragmenting Conservative support”
You got it. Many others got it months ago.
Patrick McHenry, NC.
“When Hunter endorses McCain..”
Please don’t smear Hunter to cover for Thompson. What Thompson was doing all along was obvious to many freepers all along, but Fredheads refused to believe it. We knew why Fred was in it, when he would exit, and who he would endorse.
He’s right. People shouldn’t sit out this election. Even if they don’t vote for president they should try to put some Republicans in the Congress to be able to put up a fight against the Dems. Maybe McCain will pick Thompson as his VP. I have said before that I will vote for McCain if he is the nominee because I don’t like the alternative in voting for Hilary or Obama. McCain should think about picking Thompson, Hunter or some other conservative as a running mate. If he picks Huckabee then maybe the third party would be better because McCain I think will definitely lose to Hilary or Obama then.
“Think about the timing.”
Yes, think about the timing. McCain has not been able to convince fiscal and social conservatives, let alone law and order Republicans, to buy his goods, so he needs all the conservatives he can drag out of hiding to come out and tell us McCain is not the man we know him to be.
Huckabee is the only person right now who seems to be standing in the way of a smooth skate to goal, so Fred has come out now. McCain needsFred, and Fred has come arunning.
Oh, wow, man. Yeah, umm, sure, I like that music, like, um, wow...uh, hey what were we talking about? Oh, yeah, like, Jerry Garcia? yeah, sure, um, he'd make a great Veep...oh, wait, man, he's like dead, like really...buried and everything. So, um, let's just drop some acid and pretend we have a conservative choice, Ok? I mean, like...um...I forgot what I was going to say, man. < / sarcasm >
Look, guys, Fred is a Republican. He waited until McCain has cinched the nomination before he said anything. Big Effing Deal. You really expected a leading "star" of the GOP to endorse Hillary? All he did was join Nancy Reagan, Newt Gingrich, and the rest of the big names in circling the wagons. I don't like McCain. I don't want to vote for him. I don't want to choose the lesser of two evils. But if we circle those wagons early enough maybe we can influence McCain to select a conservative VP, who will be there when Ted Kennedy takes President McCain (ouch, that hurts) for a drive.
And I expect the remaining candidates, including Ron Paul and Alan Keyes will also endorse McCain once the votes are in at the convention. We have plenty of time to dump john-boy if he chooses a bad VP. This is the time to try to pressure him to do right. Even a maniac knows that the libs will jump back to the demonrats - whether Rodham or Hussein - so the only way to win is to satisfy the conservative base. Make him beholden to us, and be sure to work for every conservative house and senate candidate that is running where ever you live.
I will not change my opinion of Fred. I still prefer him above all other candidates. Had he endorsed McCain before it was a done deal that the nomination was going to him, I could see all the complaints. But he did not do that. He waited - just as Romney did.
Let's be real for a minute here - the remaining candidates are not national candidates, Romney lost because of shameful bigotry against his religion (an American one, at that...it started here in the US...but then there are many unusual things that start here -- like demonrats), Giuliani had too much baggage. Once Thompson, Hunter, and Tancredo dropped out McCain was all that was left.
If Fred were the VP, it would not require me to hold my nose to vote Republican. We Really Need Fred Instead
So true. I nailed Fred as a liberal in conservative clothing months ago...and took plenty of flack for it.
Oh grow up! My God it is people like you that have us with a Democrat Congress that is ruining this nation.
Ever heard of a political upset?
Yes.. Have we had one yet?..... Oh, now I remember Romney cratered......
“Im backing the guy that Duncan Hunter endorsed - Mike Huckabee.
Were down to two candidates in the GOP presidential race, and Huckabee is TRULY pro-life, and is VERY, VERY strong on protecting our 2nd amendment rights.”
I’m with Sun.
ROTFLMAO!
“Romney lost because of shameful bigotry against his religion...”
Wrong. He lost because he is a flip-flopping Massachusetts liberal.
Yep. I guess so.
Exactly. It will be bad enough having to salute a Clinton but I just shudder to think of our troops being forced to salute a muslim.
This time we might go straight to main lining.
Please ping me to your prayer and fasting thread, too.
I’ll take mine with a rusty nail right between my eyes please...
Put me out of my misery...I’ll see you guys on the flip side...;-)
