There is NOTHING conservative about working with the Democratic nominee against most of your fellow conservatives in order to grow government, socialize medicine, lose the war in Iraq, tilt the Supreme Court to the Left, and make Roe v. Wade the permanent law of the land. If you are conservative and vote for the Democratic nominee or even just refuse to vote for McCain, who is by any and every objective standard, considerably more conservative than either of them, let me tell you what you are NOT doing,
* You are NOT doing the logical thing. When faced with a choice between a moderate who holds some conservative positions and some non-conservative positions and a liberal who holds no conservative positions, the logical decision is to take the moderate. After all, half a loaf is better than none.
* You are NOT helping conservatism or your fellow conservatives. To the contrary, you are helping liberals defeat conservative ideas. Isn't that what conservatives are saying that they're furious at McCain over? Well, who's less of a conservative: John McCain, who, if he were in the White House, would help conservatives win some battles and would help liberals win others or the conservatives who want to help a Democrat get into the office who will go against conservative ideas every time?
* You are NOT looking out for the best interests of the country. If you believe winning in Iraq is better than losing, if you believe balancing the budget is better than higher deficit spending, if you believe that having a Supreme Court that is tilted to the right is better than having a Supreme Court tilted to the left, and if you believe that Roe v. Wade is leading to the immoral murder of millions of children -- and the overwhelming majority of people reading this column certainly believe all those things -- then you are certainly not putting the good of the country first if you oppose John McCain in November.
Today's Juan McCain Supporters: the Ike Turners of the modern-day Republican party. ;)
So...if you had sat out the Arnold election and a Democrat had been elected, things would be better?
—
are you a Californian, by chance.
Gray Davi$ remaining in office might have been the cheaper of the two paths in retrospect.
No one could have anticipated the glut of borrowing and spending to follow with an R installed in thr Gub slot.
and thus, to claim that was better than what a D would have done is open to debate, imo.
The REcall started over vehicle license fees and the energy crisis exacerbated the situation along with a massive llooming defiict to make a lot of folks buy into darn near anything.
We are experiencing much the same scenario here in a way here today on a national scale. and who is the Gub supporting btw, one more dolt buying into Global Warming and we must embrace our brethren from south of the border that do the jobs no one else will do..
sorry, goldfinch, I don’t buy it, and neither do a lot of other folks who have been burned before. yet it will be conservatives who get the blame regardless how this turns out. strange , huh?
“So you would rather hand victory to Al Qaeda “
You are assuming that McCain would prevent such attacks. He is an open border supporter. He may wage war overseas against such enemies but how can we possibly stop such attacks on our soil if we refuse to screen who enters this country?
Well, it’s a long way to November. I’m sure we’ll have plenty of time to sort this out by then.
Frankly I think McCain should spend the next couple of months playing golf with Limbaugh, going shooting with Ann Coulter, and taking Sean Hannity bass fishing.
As Darkworf has said in his tag line, in 2009, six of the Supreme Court Justices will be over 70. That being said, God I hate McCain!!
That's good enough to make some lucky somebody a sweet tagline. ;)
You’ve made good points. I’ll wait to see who his running mate is.
But because his advisor is Warren Rudman (who gave us Souter), his comment about Alito, and especially because of McCain/Feingold, I see no reason to trust that McCain would appoint conservative justices either.
They're every bit as charming and persuasive as their chosen candidate. The more I read from them, the more motivated I am to defeat Queeg come November.
Nice try to get out of answering the question.
Again, McCain is for fighting the war on terror. Hillary and Obama are both against it. If you allow Hillary or Obama to win, you are handing Al Qaeda a victory in the war on terror.
Do you love your ego more than you love your country? Stop trying to pretend that McCain is “just as bad as the Democrats”, we know he is not as bad as they are, even though he is no true conservative.
I respectfully disagree. McCain will do far more damage to the republic than a democrat POTUS because he will effectively neutralize the GOP as an opposition party. The conservatives in the party will not be able to oppose the leftward lurch because of pressure from the party leadership and those controlling campaign funds. On the other hand it will be open season on a Democrat POTUS.
Another vote for the Democrats. You apparently are fine with surrendering to Al Qaeda.
Just IMAGINE what hillary or obama would do to this great Country! I will straight out call anyone an IDIOT who would help give either one of them a chance to win.
As to McCain’s would-be SCOTUS picks, I’m resigned to his picking O’Connors and Kennedys — seeming conservatives who will “Grow in office.” But better that, then young uber-leftists.
Go back to your corner and suck your thumb. We adults will try and deal with this avalanche of lemons.
You must remember that a Democrat POTUS will have a majority Congress for at least 2 years. There will be no open season on the POTUS then. All opposition will be effectively neutered. A lot of damagae can happen in that time. McCain cannot neutralize the GOP if the conservatives in the party stop whining and get off their humps to elect conservatives back in Congres. Then he will have to work with them or himself be neutralized. Instead of focusing on one man like McCain, the conservative wing of the GOP needs to hold the chestnuts of the leadership of the Republican party to the fire.
There’s nothing really to sort out. It was years ago I decide I wasn’t voting for McCain again. Unless he can prove a serious change in who he is since CFR became his goal that stands. If he’s not good enough to be a senator then he’s definitely not good enough to be president. Everybody has to make their call, mine’s made.
“we need to step back and look at the whole picture, not just a little part of it.”
All he has to do is continue to state his case about why conservatives should vote for him. We’ll either believe him or we won’t by November.
But the point is, if McCain loses in November, it’s because he didn’t get enough votes - not because of conservatives.
That’s certainly the attitude he’ll likely have if he wins.
Lol, we need to put a new caption on that, “how to survive this election cycle” and what follows..!!
Good graphics devolve!
