The Dewey Loman American Legion Post 109 is the place to be tonight for Maryland Republicans.
Thats where presidential candidate Sen. John McCain and ex-presidential candidate Mitt Romney are both scheduled to speak this evening in Halethorpe Maryland.
Romney was previously scheduled to attend the event, while McCain announced his surprise appearance this morning.
And just minutes ago, McCains campaign put out word that the Arizona senator would be picking up a major endorsement at this evenings Baltimore County Republican Lincoln Day Dinner.
Minutes later, former Massachusetts Gov. Romney announced he would be ending his bid for the White House.
One source with knowledge of tonights event tells PolitickerMD.com that former Gov. Bob Ehrlich will not be the one introducing McCain before the presidential candidate delivers brief remarks; however, Ehrlich aides say he will be announcing his endorsement this evening.
But does an Ehrlich endorsement qualify for a national teaser endorsement at this stage of McCain's campaign? We think not.
There are implications that Romney, who has been locked in a bitter fight with McCain, would make the quick endorsement with the hope of unifying their party.
According to an advance text of his speech to the 2008 CPAC conference obtained by Times Mark Halperin, Romney said, I disagree with Senator McCain on a number of issues, as you know.
But I agree with him on doing whatever it takes to be successful in Iraq, on finding and executing Osama bin Laden, and on eliminating Al Qaeda and terror. If I fight on in my campaign, all the way to the convention, I would forestall the launch of a national campaign and make it more likely that Senator Clinton or Obama would win.
Works for me. If you vote for a dem or throw a defacto vote to them by not voting because McFraud is such a despicable RINO then you are by default joining the party of traitors. McCain is horrific but any dem living or dead is worse.
Especially Hannity, he spent an entire year fawning over Rooty, then he switched to Romney (who was just a liberal who claims to NOW be pro-life). This is going to be a disaster no matter what happens, but it’s not the fault of conservatives.
BUMP
I heard earlier that Romney cancelled out of that dinner.
Bump. Excellent post!
I dont know what you are.
‘pro-environment’ is meaningless bumper sticker label.
I’m pro drilling everywhere we can, because we can do it safely and without side effects to the environment, and I know through my detailed study of the matter that global warming is massively overhyped. I am pro-nuclear power because that is safe, efficient, zero-pollution-emitting power.
I am more ‘pro-environment’ than Al Gore because my positions are better for the real human well being in the environment than his are. Yet the damnable fools on the other side of the fence appropriate the phony ‘pro-environment’ label for their socialist anti-property rights schemes to increase govt control of our lives.
if you are a liberal on the environment ‘pro-environment’ is the wrong label, should be ‘Shallow fool for eco-extremist myths’ ...
If you are a conservative who is into nature and environment, look up “Crunchy Conservatives” ....
maybe that’s who you really are and dont know it. i dunno, ymmv.
The media is, by and far, liberal, yes. But it cracks me up to see/read/hear people say that FoxNews has gone lib, when the libs themselves despise FoxNews with a passion.
Do I believe the media wants libs to win, yes. But the media cannot make Republicans vote for a liberal. If they can, what does that say about the intelligence of said Republicans?
And don’t counter with “It’s all a conspiracy—all those “Repubs” who voted for McCain were just liberals who registered as Republicans”, because that line of thought is just exactly like someone on Daily Kos would use to explain the 2000 and 2004 election.
Face it, the GOP—and its voters, obviously—doesn’t want anyone to the right of Bush, because that person doesn’t stand a chance in hell of winning the election, period.
Aw, C'mon, go ahead and donate.
A belated Maryland “Freak State” PING!
There will be a price to pay for supporting McCain.
No surprise here. Mitt is a class act.
Or not. I'm not sure Romney would want it, IF he thinks McCain is a likely loser. Because if Romney has eyes on 2012, being the VP candidate on a losing ticket is NOT a path to future success. Just ask:
President Edwards
President Lieberman
President Kemp
President Quayle
President Bentsen
President Ferraro
President Mondale
President Dole
President Shriver
President Muskie
President Miller
President Lodge
President Kefauver
President Sparkman
President Warren
President Bricker
President McNary
President Knox
President Curtis
President Robinson
President Bryan
In fact, you have to go back to 1920 to find the ONLY losing VP candidate IN THE HISTORY OF THE REPUBLIC later to go on to become President, namely, Franklin Roosevelt.
