With Romney's pull-out (suspension, anyway), and barring huge unforeseen events, the GOP Pres nomination will go to McCain.
I didn't see any prior threads devoted to discussing a range of VP options. (I did see some suggesting particular people, like Condi Rice.)
As I see it, McCain SHOULD want to address three factors with his VP pick, although the 3d is far behind the first 2:
1. Ideological Balance. Someone to McCain's right on those issues where McCain is left, such as Amnesty, Gore-Bal Warming, Judges.
2. Relative Youth. McCain's age is a factor, making his VP pick more important than such picks usually are: McCain is much more likely than most presidents to become incapacitated, just as an actuarial matter.
3. A Popular Figure in a Swing State. Although this isn't as important, I note that there is little *geographic* benefit to picking, say, Gov. Perry of TX, because TX is going to go GOP anyway.
Thoughts?
The best person for the job also means being the cleverest person for the job.
ROFL!
Not at all, in fact she ran on the promise of cleaning up the corruption that was plaguing her state and party, which she did very nicely.
Olympia Snowe
Haley Barbour
I know you’re right about that. I think she has a monstrous fear of him being assasinated.
J.C. Watts!
Jeff Sessions of Alabama.
Deal. Consider this my cyber handshake.
“He has admitted it in his own book. Many Vietnam Vets tell of favors and special treatment for McCain. This whole “war hero” thing is largely made up. His entire military career is one of undeserved commands and promotions. How many planes did he crash before he was “shot down”?”
The Democrats, the MSM and the 527s will make sure the American public is well educated on those and other matters McCain. Blinkered Republican primary voters might be in for some shocks since so much of it will be backed by very credible evidence.
Maybe you’re right. But then they ceratinly wouldn’t support a pro-choice President, anyway.
My point was that Condi would draw votes away from whoever gets the Dem nomination. In a close state, that could swing it. And in a close election, that state could be the difference.
And you know this how? Every thing I’ve heard him say suggests he’s miles more conservative than any of those.
This going to drive some Freepers crazy, but if he wants to really increase his chances of winning blue states and keeping red states, he will try and recruit COLON POWELL.
Tom Coburn.
Conservative fiscal genius from the south.
Does not plan to run for the senate again. Has given his endorsement to McCain.
Hillary Clinton
Powell would help a lot politically if he’d agree. But he won’t agree, not least because his wife Alma simply won’t stand for it. JMO.
Bwahahahahahaha!
“Rats. Rats. Rats! Thousands! Millions of them!”

we might as well clear the decks.
