Bill Owens. Has gone to the private sector, I believe. Also had a problem with his private life that some felt might damage him with the base.
Mark Levin - Landmark Legal Foundation
Honestly, Mark would eat the democrats ALIVE in debates, IF they had the courage to debate him!
Absolutely! I am SO dismayed that Newt didn’t run this year. His wisdom and excellent ideas would have made this an incredible race - one that would never resulted in mccain taking the leadership role he has now. I am seriously hopig that Newt keeps a very high profile for the next few years, comes up with his brilliant ideas on a regular basis, and RUNS in 2012!
Too bad he really put the screw to PPH a few years ago and seemed to be a real straight talker. That is part of our problem most of the best conservative republicans either aren’t politicians or don’t stay in politics long, unlike the Dems whose best and brightest believe that government is a worthy life’s ambition. You couldn’t pay me to be in politics, that is why I am always hopelessly drawn to the candidate that has the private sector experience. They seldom win because the political class tends to stick together, i.e McCain/Huck, McCain and all his political endorsements.
*sigh* I know. They never would “get” him. He’d be too pro-America.
Trust me on this one. I know what I’m talking about and the CP isn’t all pure either. They’re a waste of time and money. These cowards have no intention of ever winning elections. If they did, they’d join us in the Republican party to increase our numbers.
Didn’t Thune just co-sponser some lefty bill? I can’t remember what but I do remember thinking it not at all conservative.
george allen???
THe comedian??
He’s dead...been dead ten years.
I LOVE Jindal but he needs to run the full 8 in LA (not the least of reasons, to help build the party in that state) - his day will come.
I like Barbour, naturally, I also would be happy with:
Watts (the face of the next generation of the party of he will stand for it)
Thompson (age becomes an issue)
Kemp (age is already an issue but he’s healthy)
Gingrich (despite differences, he’s a thinker which is good)
Sessions (I’m usually not that enthused with Senators as prez candidates but he impresses me)
Allen (we need to defeat this BS about one word destroying your career)
Couburn (I worry that he won’t sell well on the national stage)
I like WHAT I KNOW OF these guys too:
Sanford
DeMint
Cronyn
Kyle
McClintok (needs to win SOMETHING high profile out there)
Steele (ditto - Lt. Gov. just isn’t much of a resume)
Santorum (easily deionized I think)
Franks
And a couple of names who aren’t yet presidential material but are the sort of “rising stars” you want to keep an eye on besides Jindal:
Steve Larnget (is this guy an illusion? What happened to him after he lost the governor’s race? He’s too camera friendly and good on the issues to let slip away)
Marsh Blackburn
Chip Pickering (my money says he follows Haley as governor of Mississippi and from there...?)
Mike Pence - great work in the House so far, but eventually needs a higher profile)
I’m seriously afraid the party will have moved so far left by 2012 and have so many new illegals added to the voter base that no true conservative will ever get the nomination again.
Sad, I know. But that’s about how I feel right now.
I seem to recall that Kasich ran for prez in 2000 and, well, we know how that turned out...
I’ll go out on a limb here.
No matter who wins in November, there won’t be a Republican party.
Fact is, there will be three parties: Conservative, Liberal Democrat, and Social Democrats. The Social Dems will be in the middle, and McCain is essentially the leader of that party now.
The Conservatives are what’s left of the Reaganites.
The Liberal Dems are the Obama wing of the Party. Bill was a Social Dem, and his wife can’t decide what to be at this point.
No law says an incumbent President can’t have a primary challenger.
Senator Sessions
Tommy Frank
Quitting already?
Michael Steele.
JC Watts
What is Governor Frank Keating of Oklahoma up to these days? Always liked him.
Anyone but that smug, condescending Haley Barbour ... used to like the guy until he told us on Tuesday night how his buddy Huckabee was having a very good night and that Romney was not having such a good night by comparison. Is he f***ing blind? Can he count?
He reminds us why everyone is pissed off at the GOP establishment, in effect trying to tell us what is best for us.
Just saying something is so doesn’t make it so. What an a**.
Well, in Hillary’s case, she and Bill have demonstrated their propensity for bulldozing the rule of law. W hasn’t.
