After seven years of watching and fighting against Americans who wish to see the country suffer so that they can get at George Bush, the last thing I wanted or expected to see was conservatives saying they would rather see the country suffer than support John McCain over Clinton or Obama, so that they can "get the blame."
A retreat before victory is assured in Iraq cannot be undone in 2012. And mandatory, single-payer, universal health care, once established, will not EVER go away either.
I am not impuning anyone's motives. I believe I have a reasonable understanding of principled behavior. But if your goal is to see the country punished because---
You can stop right there. If your goal is to see America punished, and her people open to attack and/or ruined financially in order to prove a point for any reason, then you do not deserve politial power nor are you likely to achieve it. A party is a compact. It is, essentially, a pleage of mutual support. As a matter of fact, it's nothing more or less than a promise.
A political party is a series of personal compromises in order to achieve a goal unattainable by the perfect political party: one's own self. If McCain is the legal and lawfully selected nominee, and Republicans decide to walk away from their party in droves, what makes them think they will be able to count on those who, you know, actually went out and voted Republican either joyfully or through clenched teeth, in order to prevent The Deluge?
If your idea of any political party is one that means unlimited support for your personal values if your candidate is ascendant, while you in turn owe none to those you dislike or even disdain, you might be in for a surprise in future elections.
Speaking as a FredHead myself, I am bitterly disappointed that I did not even have the chance to vote for a man I admired, and am more distraught still to find myself in the position I now occupy. I see many, many worrisome things about John McCain, but being tough on terror and spending are not among them. We could do worse. Two names come to mind immediately.
Much is said about principles, and since I am not able elect anyone BY MYSELF I have entered into this pact with the group of people who I feel most comfortable with in terms of values. If they, as a body, choose a candidate who is not my first, second, third or fourth choice, then I can look to the Democrats. There I find views so antithetical to everything I believe that I realize there is indeed something to this idea of party loyalty.
And I cannot help but think that such a kind and practical man as Ronald Reagan would be amazed that his name was being invoked so frequently in order to insure that the most liberal, socialist, power-hungry statist in my living memory is elected. I'm glad he's not here to see this because if he knew the consequences of what was being done in his name, I believe it would kill the man.
What's most important is arguable, however the only genie that absolutely cannot be put back in the bottle is the legalization of 20+ million new Democrat voters.
Really? Then recall how Reagan used to say that he didn't leave the Democrat Party. The Democrats left him.
There comes a time to draw a line in the sand. RINO McInsane will never get my vote.
There are more "warped minds" like mine, than there are like yours. I hope you and yours come to your senses before November. In fact the sooner the better.
She's said she won't vote for McCain. I don't think Buchanan's said that yet.
A lot of Ann's ire seems to have to do with McCain's stand on torture.
I don't know the details or who's right, but "Hillary Clinton, Ann Coulter and Torture" doesn't look like a winning campaign slogan, however appropriate or amusing it may be.
Think tactics, folks.
Evil stuff proposed by McNutt will be passed with the help of GOP remnants and Democrat lefties.
The SAME STUFF proposed by a Pres. Hillary would be fought tooth and nail, more likely to a standstill than to passage.
A Hildabeast Amnesty would fail—but one sponsored by a Pres. McCain???
How much did the RNC pay you to post this?
So how does America get punished by not supporting McNuts? Seems like turning the Elephant into a RINO perpetually would be more punishing. We survived 8 years of Bill. All we will get is 2 years of Hill. Then elect a Republican Congress and in 2 more years a real conservative. Two years is a lot easier to deal with than a continuous stream of RINOs.
It all depends on whether or not you get free season tickets.
LMAO...spoken like a true liberal!!
I cannot vote for McVain under any circumstances.
I am not abstaining from voting for McCain in Reagans name. I am doing so because I believe to my core that McCain will be more dangerous to my ideals and my country that Clinton or Obama. It is not a temper tantrum, it is my well thought out belief. You can ridicule me if you like, but there are times in this life you have to stick to your core principles and beliefs. I have never abstained from voting before, even though I have often had to hold my nose and be a good Republican. Perhaps there is a bit of unfairness from the author of this article and others who post on this site. It is possible to disagree with what many may feel is the “Party Line” and not be a traitor.
Assuming the conservative SOTUS judges don’t croak in the next four years, the most likely scenario is that Hillary or Obambi will replace aging liberals. No change to the status quo is likely.
I will not vote for McCocaine.
Hillary is counting on it. That is how the Clintons got elected in '92 and '96 when most voters voted against them.
At this point, it looks like the election will be between McCain and Obama. Not even the democRats like Hillary and they are flocking to Obama now that he appears to be a viable alternative. If that is the case, then Obama will be elected since the democRats will be motivated to vote and many Republicans will stay home.
If either Obama or McCain is going to be President for at least 4 years, then what will really matter will be trying to get enough Republicans elected to the Senate to block the left wing judicial appointments that either one will make.
My biggest fear is that the democRats will get both the presidency and a veto-proof majority of the Senate. If that happens we truly are screwed.
Seems strange to me that a nominee has to be sold to his base. I thought, ...oh well.
( ) Hillary Clinton (R)
( ) John McCain (D)
How would u vote in view of your party loyalty??
I agree completely. Perhaps someone should have told that to McCain. He not only broke that promise he shattered the pelage on many occasions and all he is left with is the empty assurance of Trust me.
You take your own hyperbole too seriously...don't worry though, we don't.
You have demonstrated the difference between a General and a Captain.
Hear Hear!
I, for one, was raised to be ashamed of cuckoldry.
There has not been any one candidate come forth this time for me to get excited or happy about.
Early on I decided no matter the Republican nominee I would still vote Republican.
The threat to our nations security, support for our military and the economy are my top priorities. As I see it without these three issues protected nothing else will matter.
Any Republican is better on those issues than any democrat.
Even John McCain.
