Rush spoke of a three-legged stool: national defense, economic conservatism, and social conservatism. Romney tried for this, but could not pull it off. Because of his past (actual/perceived), he was not accepted by many as socially conservative. Huckabee has tons of credibility on the social conservatism. I don’t think he cares about national defense. I think he is negative on economic conservatism. He could provide Romney’s missing leg, but won’t. I don’t think Romney can make up for Huckabee’s shortcomings if Romney were in the number 2 position.
Still, it is not a bad idea. The two camps would be smart if they were to meet and discuss the possibilities.
I hate to break it to my fellow freepers, but a comprimise candidate is the only chance Republicans have at winning the WH in ‘08. For 6 years Republicans controlled both the White House and Congress and literally screwed the pooch. They were worse than the Democrats in regards to fiscal sanity and growth of government. They did nothing regarding illegal immigration. The Bush administration made some unforgivable errors in its handling of Iraq. Etc etc.
To his credit, McCain has serious cred as a Commander in Chief. Also, let’s hope that he appoints justices whose jurisprudence matches his favorite justice on SCOTUS: Scalia.
Think about it this way: In the areas where he offends conservatives most, he’s no worse than the 2 Dem front-runners. Yet, he’s better than the Dems in other areas, namely defense and opposing socialized medicine.
I grasp that he’s far from a Conservative’s wet dream candidate. Nevertheless, think about the alternative (Hillary or Obama) and then consider embracing pragmatism and voting for McCain.
Would not Mc Cain be tough on foreign policy?
Stay cool fellows!
And one can wonder about the way to get the hispanic votes when OUSSbAMA has overwhelmingly the black vote
Huck has 2 degrees from a divinity school. That, and $5, will get him a Starbuck’s coffee. Administrative experience? Governor of ARKANSAS, for pete’s sake. That’s like saying the dim, Dem governor we’ve got is qualified to be President! Not.
Get a grip, folks, the Huckster is not Presidential material in any century, certainly not this one.
