Good grief. Romney is the most conservative candidate out there. For the life I failt to udnerstand support for Huckabee but to each his own.
I hate to admit this, but I believe the kernel of dedicated support for Huck is made to a large extent of those religiously bigoted people who loath Mormonism. I’ve tried to largely ignore this faction of “our side” and I do believe their total numbers are small, but just monitoring feedback on this site, Townhall, and a few others, leads me to believe that they do exist.
Those people, will never vote for Mitt Rommey. That is something we’ll have to deal with. There are also people that will not vote for Obama, or Hillary because of bigotry. We’ll just have to see how this plays out.
BINGO!
We HAVE a winnner!

If thats true, its a shame. If someone does not want to vote for Mitt because he is a former liberal governor, thats perfectly fine.
Outside of Texas, Utah is my favorite state, and I may need to retire there in 30 years if Texas goes liberal. I love visiting there. Mormons created a wonderful society, very conservative values that I can respect, and as good as a work ethic as I have ever seen in any group.
When I had my fourth child [actually, the credit goes to my wife, of course], a Mormon friend of mine said that I officially qualified to become a member of his church!
My wife is one of those Republicans. She says Mormonism is a cult and that only a crazy person would be a Mormon and that she's not voting for a lunatic.
I think you hit it on the head...
They aren’t as afraid of John “Chairman Mao” McCain.
I am a born-again Christian that believes that Mormonism is a cult. Oooo, there, I said it. That being said, I am a Romney supporter. On the issues, especially fiscal, I don’t agree with Huckabees populism. I think it is dangerous.
BUT, it was NOT easy for me to make the decision to support Romney. The Mormonism was a serious speed bump for me to get over. I came to the realization that I was not endorsing his religion but his positions on the issues.
Now here is the reality, many Christians will just not vote for Romney because of his religious beliefs, period. You may say that is bigotry. I disagree.
Many Evangelicals can somewhat be compared to those that will never vote for McCain under any circumstance because of McCain/Kennedy. Even though McCain haters agree with him on about 75% of the issues they will toss him aside for principle. Evangelicals will dismiss Romney out of hand because of his Mormonism based on their faith. Those are the facts, and should Romney be the nominee, it will be a HUGE problem.
