This will be the last "Budweiser" shootout.
The Budweiser Shootout is a 70 lap, 175 mile all star NASCAR Nextel Cup (formerly Winston Cup) non points race held at Daytona, one week before the Daytona 500. The event is held on Saturday night, under the lights. Also new this year is the race will be broken up into 2 segments. The first segment is 20 laps. The teams get a 10 minute break and line up in the same order as at the end of the segment. The second segment must end with a green, white, checkered finish. All caution laps count toward the total of each segment. All restarts are double file (like the start of the race). Drivers qualify, not teams. If a driver leaves a team, the new team will be in the race. To qualify:
Each driver/team must participate in Budweiser's promotion of pole qualifying (a decal). The driver/team must qualify on the pole (or be the fastest program qualifier if the pole winner does not participate) of a Nextel Cup points event in the previous year. Past winners from previous "Budweiser Shootout", "Bud Shootout", and "Busch Clash" events are eligible. Drivers must finish in the top 50 in points the previous year. The field starting positions are chosen by random draw.
Fire em up and let's go racing boys!!!

Toyotas continue to show strength

If you’re looking for a falloff in the performance of the Toyotas during preseason testing, you won’t find it at California. Denny Hamlin posted the top two speeds at the two-mile track Thursday morning in two different Joe Gibbs racing Camrys the Nos. 11B (182.523 mph) and 11A (181.800 mph).
Ryan Newman was third at 181.511 mph in the No. 12A Penske Racing Dodge. DEI’s Mark Martin had the fastest Chevrolet (fifth overall at 181.456 mph). Defending Cup champion Jimmie Johnson struggled early, posting the 38th-best speed (177.940 mph) in the No. 48A Hendrick Chevy.

We’ll see what they can do when they fire the engines at Daytona on the 17th and have to run with the big boys.

Too far out for radar anyway, Accuweather's 15 day forecast is about it. :(
