Black Conservatives Rally to Urge Mike Huckabee to Stay in Presidential Race

A broad coalition of black conservatives from across the country are holding a press conference to urge former Governor Mike Huckabee to stay in the presidential race for the Republican nomination until the convention.

"Governor Huckabee should not be intimidated to stop his bid for the Republican nomination," states Don Scoggins, veteran GOP activist and ... president of Republicans for Black Empowerment, a DC-based national grassroots organization.

The concern of the group is the pressure that is mounting by Republican talking heads to push Governor Huckabee out of the race. The consensus is that Huckabee's campaign was deliberately sabotaged by Fred Thompson in South Carolina to hone out a two-man race between McCain and Romney in Florida. Polls still show Huckabee leading in many Southern states and competitive in others even with limited resources.

"Inside-the-beltway Republicans have lost touch with the increasing seriousness with which heartland conservatives relate to the traditional values agenda," states Star Parker, a nationally syndicated columnist and conservative activist. "More and more folks are feeling personally assaulted by the meaninglessness that is gripping our culture and believe that Mike Huckabee is the only Republican candidate that embodies the moral clarity of the GOP ideals." ...

Numerous African-American conservatives, many also veteran Republican Party activists, are scheduled to speak at the one-hour press conference.

I wish he did not support releasing 1100 convicted criminals out of prison.
I wish he did not support tax payer subsidy to pay college tuition for illegals.
I wish he did not propose building Mexican consulate in Arkansas at Tax payer expense.
I wish he did not increase taxes in Arkansas by half a Billion which is a lot for a poor and small state.
I wish he would not wear his religion on his sleeve.
I wish he did not accuse GW Bush of bunker mentality.

Didn’t Huckabee get 48% of the black vote in Arkansas? Why does he have such a strong appeal for a demographic that usually votes dim?

I used to be perplexed by socially conservative blacks voting dim but now we have white evangelicals voting for Mr. $50 abortions. Now I’m just disappointed by everyone.

Many of those pardoned had never been sentenced to prison, and many had already served their full sentences before they were pardoned. Many more weren’t pardoned at all, but merely had their sentences commuted. The remarkable thing is that out of all those cases, not one generates any significant negative publicity.

Instead we hear about Wayne Dumond, whose sentence was commuted by Jim Guy Tucker during Governor Clinton’s administration, and who was paroled by a board consisting entirely of Clinton-Tucker appointees.

Arkansas’ state government grew at a rate roughly half the national average during Governor Huckabee’s tenure.

Huckabee won’t drop out. He can’t.

As he’s stated, “I believe most Americans want their next president to remind them of the guy they work with, not the guy who laid them off.”

In Huckabee’s mind, business operators must keep every employee employed at all costs. Because they are owed a living. No matter that your business will go bankrupt and ultimately leave every employee unemployed.

I assume the same logic applies to Huckabee’s campaign.
No matter how miserably he’s doing, no matter that he’ll have no more money to pay the employees, he has to keep it going fully staffed until the checks start bouncing.
If he doesn’t, his staff (who, like all employees, are owed a living) will be left unemployed.

Not sure I would trust this guy to downsize the Federal government. But at least he’s not a quitter.

Sorry to bother you, but do you guys have a problem with keyword abuse? Can you identify who puts up a given keyword? Are you willing/able to remove blatant taunts from the keyword list?

There is very little that surprises me about todays political climate. Yet, it has been my experience that Romney supporters have for the most part, at the very least, been respectful and honorable. When I look at the keywords and read the posts on various threads it becomes evident this is no longer the case.

Did Romney supporters suddenly become nasty and puerile out of desperation? Does another candidates supporters joining their ranks account for this recent trend? Were Romney supporters like this all along and I am just now noticing? I suspect not, still, all these are interesting questions and I suspect the answers would be very informative.

Why does he have such a strong appeal for a demographic that usually votes dim?

They both share similar positions, I believe. They are Christians who believe that compassion should be shown through all venues: private and public (government). For instance: if someone is poor, the government should do something about it, regardless the background of the person (hispanic, black, white) or the source of the poverty.
