Of course, dating it to 1999, in part buys into the lies that got us here in the first place.

The Orthodox Christian Serbs of Kosovo have been being attacked by Albanians long before that. The Albanians in Kosovo joined with the Nazis and Ustashe in the persecution of Serbs, and even before that: a poster on another thread recalled that the Ottoman Sultan had to issue a ban on Albanian attacks on Christians, as it was hurting the tax-base for the jizya.

And in the interim: look at NYTimes archives from the 1980’s. Lots of stories about Albanian harrassment of Serbs.

All that happened in the 1990’s was the Serbs tried to fight back, only to have the West intervene on behalf of the terrorists and criminals.

WARDEN MESSAGE: BELGRADE DEMONSTRATIONS LIKELY
U.S. Embassy Belgrade released the following Warden Message on February 21:

This Warden Message is being issued to inform U.S. citizens of safety and security concerns related to scheduled demonstrations in Serbia related to Kosovo’s recent declaration of independence.

Following Kosovo’s February 17, 2008 declaration of independence, street protesters in different locations clashed with Serbian police and caused physical damage to a number of diplomatic missions, including the U.S. Embassy in Belgrade, and to various businesses. The U.S. Embassy in Belgrade expects that future gatherings and events protesting Kosovo’s declaration of independence, both official and unofficial, could pose security risks for onlookers and participants, including the potential for unrest and violence. Businesses and organizations with U.S. affiliations may serve as focal points for these demonstrations.

A large organized demonstration is scheduled for Thursday, February 21, beginning at 5:00 pm in front of the Serbian Parliament in downtown Belgrade. The demonstrators are scheduled to march from the Parliament to the Saint Sava orthodox temple for a 7:00 pm service. Demonstrators are expected to arrive in large numbers in Belgrade by all modes of transportation throughout the day. Severe traffic congestion is expected and spontaneous demonstrations throughout Belgrade both before and after the scheduled 5:00 pm protest march may occur.

We wish to remind American citizens that even demonstrations intended to be peaceful can turn confrontational and possibly escalate into violence. American citizens are therefore urged to avoid the areas of demonstrations, and to exercise caution if within the vicinity of any protests. Since the timing and routes of marches and demonstrations are always subject to change, American citizens should monitor local media sources for new developments.

For the latest security information, Americans living and traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department’s Bureau of Consular Affairs Internet web site at http://travel.state.gov, where the current Worldwide Caution, Public Announcements, and Travel Warnings can be found. Up-to-date information on security can also be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll free in the U.S. and Canada, or, for callers outside the U.S. and Canada, a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays).

The U.S. Embassy in Belgrade is located at 50 Kneza Milosa Street. The Embassy website is http://belgrade.usembassy.state.gov. The Embassy telephone number is 381-11-3619-344. The Consular Section telephone is 381-11-3619-344 ext. 4655, 4665 and 4860, and the fax number is 381-11-3615-989. For after-hours emergencies, the number is 381-11-306-4679.
