John McCain 2004 Republican National Convention Address

After years of failed diplomacy and limited military pressure to restrain Saddam Hussein, President Bush made the difficult decision to liberate Iraq. Those who criticize that decision would have us believe that the choice was between a status quo that was well enough left alone and war. But there was no status quo to be left alone.

The years of keeping Saddam in a box were coming to a close. The international consensus that he be kept isolated and unarmed had eroded to the point that many critics of military action had decided the time had come again to do business with Saddam, despite his near daily attacks on our pilots, and his refusal, until his last day in power, to allow the unrestricted inspection of his arsenal. Our choice wasn’t between a benign status quo and the bloodshed of war.

It was between war and a graver threat. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Not our critics abroad. Not our political opponents.

And certainly not a disingenuous film maker who would have us believe that Saddam’s Iraq was an oasis of peace when in fact it was a place of indescribable cruelty, torture chambers, mass graves and prisons that destroyed the lives of the small children held inside their walls.

Whether or not Saddam possessed the terrible weapons he once had and used, freed from international pressure and the threat of military action, he would have acquired them again.

The so-called “true conservatives” now publicly bashing him might want to consider this.

Fresh dripping, bovine waste!

My guess is that its not really about security, though, for most maniacal anti-immigration types...

You amnesty loving open border types always get around to the race card. I should have know!

I must have signed up before they started that.

Until just now, I had never heard of it.

Sorry ‘bout that, I can’t answer your question I guess.

You think a few people killed here and there is no big deal?

There have been more people killed by illegal aliens since Sept 11 when the towers went down, than were killed on that day.

People are being killed by illegal aliens every few days. Many by those who had been deported already, some more than once.

A little law breakin never hurt, huh ----.

I think we need fence along the entire California border.

We cant let Pelosi and friends get out of there.

Then we need an economic embargo with California, like we do with Cuba.

I’m not so sure about that. I do think all of the current crop have severe flaws. John McCain, a thorn in the side he most certainly has been, makes the other two look weak in comparison of record and principle. I hate saying it and I’m not voting for him in the Primary. I just think that we all need a dose of objectivity.

I think John McCain has the potential to be a great President with the right running mate and if we allow him to see the error of his ways. It is going to be a tough race and there is only one tough candidate among them and whether we like it or not that man is John McCain. It makes me wish for GW Bush to run again. It would be better to have a brokered convention and none of these clowns win the nomination but that is unlikely.

I think that is going too far. The thing is I could vote for him especially if he picks up someone even more conservative like Thompson or Hunter on the ticket. If he tries to put a liberal on the ticket as a VP I won’t vote for him. Better a real 100% liberal that we can rally against than having our party further pushed left.

I’m troubled by those votes but I’m also troubled by Mitt’s state Universal Health Care, his rebuke of the Boy Scouts over Gay rights, and his working so hard to implement the Massachusetts Supreme court Gay Marriage ruling. Now the citizens of Massachusetts are paying for even more abortions due to Mitt’s working with Democrats. I don’t like any of the above but at least we know where McCain stands. I think McCain is the best candidate of the remaining. I hate saying it but looking at it objectively he is the one candidate who I can trust on the War on Terror, I can also trust him not to be a social liberal, and not to raise taxes. I also would like to see someone committed to cutting spending.

I just called Dr. Richard Land’s radio show to say that not only does Senator McCain support human embryonic stem cell research, but according to the late Congressman Henry Hyde, John McCain wanted to WEAKEN the pro-life plank of the Republican Party platform, so he is different behind the scenes, from the picture he tries to portray to us.

So, friend, imo, McCain isn’t as much of a pro-lifer as he portrays to us (but I believe he is better than Giuliani, who is now out of the picture).

Also, McCain will not be so great on the WOT when he won’t secure our borders, and doesn’t believe in water boarding for interrogation of terrorists (even though our own troops have had to be water boarded to see what it is like).

I SERVED!! JUST LIKE MCCAIN DID!

JUST like mccain did?

Does that mean, like him, you were tortured until you lost your mind?

He's a liberal RINO nutcase who, for Conservatives, is:

NOT reliable

NOT trustworthy

Erratic

Hot-Headed

Vindictive

Childish

Arrogant

ad infinitum (on the negative side of things)

He is a RINO turd not worthy of republican, and most especially, CONSERVATIVE, support.

As I said, I don't vote for LIBERALS...

PERIOD.

The reason why so many focus on the Mexican border is because that’s where MOST illegals are crossing, and that includes drug trafficers. Did you know we are paying $3 BILLION a year to incarcerate the illegals who have commited worse crimes then crossing the border.

Also, just because 9/11 terrorist came through Canada, doesn’t mean that terrorists won’t enter through Mexico, as well. And they ARE. KNOWN terrorists have crossed the Mexcian border.

And, of course, we should do what we must to make both the Mexican and Canadian borders as secure as possible.
