Reagan Library Republican Presidential Debate: January 30, 2008
SIMI VALLEY, California (CNN) -- Republican presidential hopefuls will face off Wednesday night without a familiar face as ex-New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani is expected to drop out and endorse front-runner Sen. John McCain.
The remaining candidates will take the stage in a debate -- sponsored by CNN, the Los Angeles Times and Politico -- beginning at 8 p.m. ET Wednesday.
The event at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, follows McCain's Tuesday night win in the Florida primary.
McCain topped former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney 36 percent to 31 percent in the hotly contested race.
Giuliani placed third with 15 percent of the vote, followed closely by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee with 14 percent, and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas was fifth with 3 percent.
Giuliani is expected to end his White House bid and endorse McCain at a campaign event in California later Wednesday, Republican Party sources said.
Minus Giuliani, the debate will be a four-candidate affair -- McCain, Romney, Huckabee and Paul -- with CNN's Anderson Cooper moderating.

I agree. Those who say conservatism is dead, GOP will go back to Rockefeller’s etc.......they really need to learn history.
Politics evolves. It does not stay stagnant.
Are there times when conservatives lose? YES. Times change. People undergo change. That is life.
But, the pendulum will swing back in our favor at some point.
People are pissed off right now, so they react against the party they perceive as responsible. They will see the Dems in power and realize we aren’t so bad after all.
The one thing that really will upset me, as I am SURE this will happen.....we will have multiple SCOTUS appointments under the next president.
I really hope a Republican........a decent one......wins. If not, the great conservative majority that is within sight will be taken from us.
The Supreme Court is why we must vote GOP.
But, if we lose.....things will be fine, at least once people come to their senses.
What will upset me the most would be the loss of a potential conservative court, however.
You got that right. No one candidate is a perfect fit for all.

About Huck’s son:
Do you hold it against Adam that Cain killed Abel?
Of course, Adam didn’t try to cover it up.
Romney wins and there will be dead silence about his performance. The news coverage will be all about McCain’s incredible momentum and impressive endorsements, with some clips of him my-friending and beaming.
I aint voting for no lump. No way.
Regards
As I said. Nancy Reagan is no naif who needs staff to protect her. She is 90 but still of sound mind.
If not for Arnold we would have a Democrat Governor of California. I suppose some might prefer that, but not I.
“I’d rather get 80% of what I want than to go over the cliff with my flag flying.”
Ronald Reagan
(although I admit Arnold gave a lot less than 80%; it was better than what we would have gotten.)
The far right might hate McCain but the left does not. However, half of the left and ALL of the right HATE Hillary.
PS. I am not a McCain supporter, but just trying to be intellectually honest.
Let em stay and debate, such discussions ca only serve to make Republicans stronger in the future.
You are right..we do need the arena of ideas. And the dems are incapable of that. But it seems that at some point, at least Paul with zero delegates should be excluded. Huckabee made some decent comments but his whining about being excluded was annoying. And a little funny.
I agree...and snakes and frogs are better ...
Well, your virtue is rare around these parts when it comes to some of the other Republicans.
Sir, the average person would likely be dead from multiple trauma shock with injuries like he sustained.
Never said his ill health is an asset, nor implied that...was just adding information to help people understand why he may limp...
Besides, it is the ideas that make the man, not an item of health.

I had to lay down for a nap. What did I miss? :)
What if it is Obama?
Say What??? You can’t be serious about Mitt hiding in the debates. You must have some serious psychological disorder.
Dang, I was in high school when Ike was President.
I don't care.
You keep proving my point, though.
You are pointless.
So go ahead, cozy up to the left.
I am not going to.
