Reagan Library Republican Presidential Debate: January 30, 2008

SIMI VALLEY, California (CNN) -- Republican presidential hopefuls will face off Wednesday night without a familiar face as ex-New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani is expected to drop out and endorse front-runner Sen. John McCain.

The remaining candidates will take the stage in a debate -- sponsored by CNN, the Los Angeles Times and Politico -- beginning at 8 p.m. ET Wednesday.

The event at the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library in Simi Valley, California, follows McCain's Tuesday night win in the Florida primary.

McCain topped former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney 36 percent to 31 percent in the hotly contested race.

Giuliani placed third with 15 percent of the vote, followed closely by former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee with 14 percent, and Rep. Ron Paul of Texas was fifth with 3 percent.

Giuliani is expected to end his White House bid and endorse McCain at a campaign event in California later Wednesday, Republican Party sources said.

Minus Giuliani, the debate will be a four-candidate affair -- McCain, Romney, Huckabee and Paul -- with CNN's Anderson Cooper moderating.

I would have loved to smack that smarmy smirk off his face.

I could never vote for that jerk of a man.

CNN talking heads say Arnie will endorse in the A.M. Didn’t want to do it before the debate.

Yes, I agree with your take on it.

Huck is suited to be a Pastor, which is a higher calling than President.

He needs to go back to his calling from the real CinC.

First off, Paul has to stay in until the bitter end. He is hillarious (although I like his smaller government, low taxes thing - I am a Conservative after all). But “making money out of thin air” as an answer to everything from foreign policy to the environment to domestic policy. I kind of imagine him launching in to a tirade about the gold standard when a waiter tells him the specials in a restaurant.

Second, McCain is a co... uh, extremely over confident fellow. He blows off what anybody asserts as the truth and just restates whatever catch phrase he has rehearsed.

Third, they all had good points and “zingers” today. I don’t like McCain (even a little), but I don’t think he hurt himself badly at all. He was himself, just as he always is. People have been voting for him anyway, and I doubt that will start because of tonight.

Schwartznager is going to support McQuigg tomorrow. Suprise not.

I know...hopefully most people will see that as a negative for McCain. Both are RINO's....

Mrs Reagan still looks to be doing well.

I think she moved that pistol off of her nightstand though..

You are wrong. He did not get a chance to answer too many questions, but when he did, he gave great responses. Any unbiased review of the debate tonight would praise Huckabee’s performance.

McCain is a crusty old man. He is a liar and I was waiting for him to pull out his ball bearings when Romney was grilling him about his distortions.

You continue to be delusional. Well, after next Tuesday I’ll be expecting a different song. R-U-N Paul will drop off the GOP radar after that. Then you can have him as a turd party candidate.

Romney is getting better and better at this. He absolutely destroyed Queeg tonight.

If I were Mitt, I’d start thinking about running as an independent. He’s got the cash to do it.

Gawd, McCain looked sick and old and bitter and tired and incoherent. He is sick inside and out and not of sound mind.

Romeny is not going to win. He’s a phoney.. I can’t believe any conservative would support him over McCain.

Romney is not Pro-Life. He is like Clinton.. and probably cries on queue at funerals. It starts there.
