McCain beats Romney in Florida GOP race

MIAMI - Sen. John McCain won a breakthrough triumph in the Florida Republican primary Tuesday night, edging past former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and seizing precious campaign momentum for next week's string of contests across 21 states.

"It shows one thing: I'm the conservative leader who can unite the party," the Arizona senator said in a brief interview with The Associated Press. "It's a very significant boost, but I think we've got a tough week ahead and a lot of states to come."

The victory was worth 57 national convention delegates for McCain, a winner-take-all's haul and the largest single prize to date in the race.

Rudy Giuliani was in third place, his best showing of the campaign but possibly not good enough to warrant continuing.

Former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee trailed but told supporters he would forge on.

“A Choice, Not An Echo.”

It sounds good to me. But who will the candidate be? And action needs to be taken starting March 5th for Texas ballot access. Time is short.

Seems to me like he’d want a conservative on the ticket.

Why? McCain's not a conservative.

Save your money because its over for Romney.

His poll numbers in all the super Tues states are crap. He will win nothing if he stays in now.

If he wastes one more dime of his own money now he is too stupid to be elected anyway.

You are right. Zogby nailed this one. Mason-Dixon was off, Mitchell was off, ARG was off (surprise, surprise), Datamar I think has fully discredited itself. It was off so far outside the MoE that it’s ridiculous.

“Wonder what one would find if they reviewed your history of posts?”

Go ahead and waste your time. I’m sure it’s not worth as much as mine.

If anything, this election proves that the presidency cannot be bought.

Er, you think non-stop MSM support (or attack) isn't being paid for by somebody?

Congratulations to Senator McCain, a good man and a great Patriot. When the going was tough in the war on terror and when it was so unpopular for many to support the war, Senator McCain said “ I would lose an election than lose a war”, now those are the words of a Patriot and a Leader.

Get a life. You just don't get it. McNut will guarantee that Hitlery will by President by this constant thumping by you McNut nuts. Can you not see what is happening. Hitlery with the help of the MSM will totally make NcNut the mentally ill person he is.

Exactly. He’d have to have a conservative to balance the ticket. Knowing him though, he’ll probably choose someone more liberal.

I’m starting to believe that recent elections and everything preceding it, is a dog and pony show - the result has already been determined. It’s just a matter of changing puppets - Bush/Clinton/Bush/Clinton

There is no way that I have heard of to audit polling, it could all be rigged. The MSM constantly bombarding people with the polling numbers, the biased coverage they give one candidate over another, and the flood of commercials packaged by Madison avenue ad execs, simply propel the lazy and uniformed public in the predetermined direction.

Since the elimination of all paper ballots and the introduction of machines, absentee ballots, mail-in ballots, same day registrations, no ID required - now voter fraud can be implemented at will. We have already seen some clever cheating in NH by the PIAPS.

I know so few republicans who want McCain - the amnesty, he voted against the Bush tax cuts, the campaign finance fiasco (legislation designed to help incumbents hold their seats, as men like Soros can donate millions through PACS)

He was finished months ago and suddenly like Kerry, he emerges from nowhere to win some early primaries. In the debates he has looked old, nasty and uninspired. Who is voting for McCain ???

It clear that MCain and The Hildebeast are the puppets of the status quo, the shadow government, whatever you want to call it. Either one winning destroys America within 20 years, as they let 15 - 20 MM illegals here now stay and allow more and more to flood in, relatives and more illegals. Within 20 years, at least 25% - 30% of America will speak Spanish as their first language.

The globalist will win, America sovereignty will be broken and our people along with our new Mexican neighbors will be part of the international work force in the new world elitist order. A revolting mix of international business entities and politicians will yield their power across the entire globe.

Maybe it was old people and all the military bases that gave him this win tonight, hopefully the last chance at any semblance of a conservative - Romney can outspend him and him the nomination.

But something in my gut is saying it’s all a fix, and we, the American people are now powerless to stop it. At this point either the emergence of a third real party of the people or an armed revolt is the only way to save the nation of our forefathers...We will not have time to develop a third party before November and win, but perhaps by 2012 a third party will be in place and we can take our country back.

McCain. What a joke It’s not surprising though. The two big party machines run this company and they are going to be sure one of their boys(or girls) get in.

There’s money to be made all the way from big companies to political heads to everyone else in between. It boggles the mind. They’re not going to let a little thing like voters get in their way.

I’m glad I’ve never sent any of these people a dime. Ever. And I never will.

McCain doesn’t care how many Americans die as long as he can prove that the Commies were wrong about torturing him.

Like a car sliding towards something.. if the driver concentrates on what he does not want to hit he most likely will. If the driver instead concentrates and steers towards another direction he most likely will go there. If you concentrate on what you don’t want, you assure you will get it. Get out and work in another direction, or donate to someone else, but DO NOT concentrate on what you don’t want. Move in a different direction.

So many people are so hung up on a "straight line to victory". There ain't no such thing. Battles are fought. Adjustments are made. The fight goes on until somebody wins. That's the system, and it ain't all bad (except for the cheating).

A bar would have been a good place to be this evening. To me, this was about as bad news as possible and I think we need to consider the prospect of Hillary’s mug on our TV 24/7 for the next 8 years. McCain will be destroyed in the General, like his alter ego Dole.

Get ready for what I fear are tough times politically and economically. I hope I’m wrong.

If McCain is the nominee - hold your nose and vote Dem. Work for a comeback in the off year election in Congress - and hope to strengthen the Republican ranks with real conservatives.

Good grief -- don't hold your nose and vote dem. The dem will just think he/she has a mandate to run wild.

Cast a third party protest vote or write someone in, and vote for conservatives down-ticket.

The GOP here is not leaning hard left. The state overall is firmly of the belief that they can vote themselves a free lunch.

“A McCain candidacy will be the Republican version of McGovern or, most likely, Mondale. A complete rout.”

Think Bob Dole.

Those polls which had Romney up by 2, reflected those who had definitely made up their minds. McCain had a lot of squishly support. Endorsements by Martinez and Crist solidified McCain’s support and pushed undecideds to his side. FL is one of the few states where Hispanics actively participate in a GOP primary. Thus decent turnout by Hispanics cancelled the vote of pro-border security conservatives.
