Smith & Wesson Holding Corporation , parent company of Smith & Wesson Corp., the legendary 156-year old company in the global business of safety, security, protection and sport, announced today that it has received an order from the Colorado State Patrol for 850 of the company's Military & Police (M&P) Series of advanced-design polymer pistols. The Smith & Wesson M&P40, chambered in .40 S&W, will be issued to each officer of the Colorado State Patrol to replace early-model Smith & Wesson pistols that have served as the primary duty firearms for the department.

The 225 is a great single stack 9.
Absolutely, bullet setback upon repeated chambering is a significant risk factor that is difficult to diagnose after the gun explodes.
Gotta keep an eye on that seating depth, critical for an LEO that loads and unloads daily.
how about buying ammo and reloading supplies with your rebate?
i just realised that i’m REALLY low on .45 and i need different dies for it for my new turret press.
I have a friend who reviews firearms for some firearms publications. He has reviewed both the XD and M&P.
He prefers the XD's trigger. Both were good on the range. Both seemed capable of good durability.
Setback with .40 will destroy those guns also. .40SW is a high pressure round with little tolerance for setback, as compared to .45ACP or 9x19.
A steel gun may absorb the damage a little better, but it will still be rendered catastrophically inop.
Thanks for that. Key info that I was unaware of.
So, is it best to cycle the carry ammo?
Yeah they deserve some rising fortunes after the debacle the former owners had in their "deal with the devil" during the Clinton regime. They've since had their own regime change and this old gun maker deserves a new start.
Inspect it frequently and rotate the first round, so you don't constantly bang the same cartridge against the ramp. All the cartridges should show the same amount of bullet exposed above the case mouth, discard any short rounds.
I also tend to leave my carry gun loaded all the time, but that's not an option for everybody.
The XD is a great gun and a favorite of mine. I really like the feel of both the XD and the M&P. I would take the time and get familiar with these guns and the students as well and then buy. You might also consider the Ruger SR9. The Ruger is not a flat top and some like that better. You will get great service out of all the mentioned above. I have had good luck with my Glock 27 and also my Sigs.
Sound advice.
I will see to it - today. Its funny — even with all the training courses, reading, and talking to shooters, I somehow never came across that vital bit of info. Thanks again!
Has not happened to mine nor any other’s I’ve owned or those owned by friends and family.
Do you have a source on this?
yup, what xsrdx said. the problem comes when you take the chambered round out at night/ end of shift, and put it back on the top of the mag. do that 50-100- or more times, and you can really hurt your self.
I shoot 40S&W in my Glock 23 with no problems, if I was to shoot hotter loads )+P) or a lot of reloads I would get another barrel that supports the case better. The 40S&W round is basically a 10mm short but its a high pressure round nevertheless, I do find it is a bit harder to keep on target with it compared to a .45ACP with its lower case pressure and velocity. Its a good cartridge better than a 9mm but I prefer to use a 10mm.
This is good for S&W, but I can’t get too excited over tax dollars being spent to arm agents of the state especially since they’re surely getting at a lot lower price than I could (WITH TAXPAYER DOLLARS) and without having to go through a lot of bothersome paperwork.
thx
This is good for S&W. They just had huge writedowns and their stocks have fallen.
I have some S&W revolvers, but am not a big fan of their semi-autos. I also own some Thompson Center guns, which S&W recently bought out.
Always keep the gun pointed in a safe directionAlways keep your finger off the trigger until ready to shoot
Always keep the gun unloaded until ready to use
Not disagreeing with that, but I just can't see where any of this should make me happy (or sad either for that matter). Their guns are overpriced when you compare them to Taurus. Maybe they need a bit of a shakeup.
You beat me to it. Great looking kids, but those guns are pointed the wrong way. Or they're on the wrong side of the bench!
