Breaking News: Rudy Giuliani hints at dropping out
LA Times ^ | 28 January 2008 | Andrew Malcolm

Rudy Giuliani appears to be pondering an end to his long pursuit of the Republican presidential nomination.

In a meeting in the back of his chartered plane en route to St. Petersburg, Fla., a short while ago, the onetime, longtime GOP front-runner told a small group of reporters, including The Times' Louise Roug: "The winner of Florida will win the nomination."

Regardless of the outcome in Florida, Rudi is pretty much toast. That all but cedes NY, NJ, and CT to McCain. He is also running strong in AZ, MO, IL, and NM. He is going to be alive with plenty of delegates after Feb 5.

There’s no true conservative left in the race, so, does it really matter who wins Florida?

Since her NY senate seat was ONLY a stepping stone for her to run for POTUS, I wonder if she'll run for the senate again. She hasn't done anything...her heart doesn't seem to be in being a senator.

I'm not suggesting that she would retreat to the kitchen baking cookies but she could do something a lot more lucrative than being in the senate which doesn't give her much power. They are about $$$$ and power.

I knew a kid who went as a summer intern to Kay Bailey Hutchison and she said the senators' hours are looooooog: starting with breakfast meetings about 7 a.m. and going to 10 p.m. or later at night.

There was a time when consciousness of character and leadership in trial and triumph was acknowledged and appreciated. Men & Women who displayed these attributes were recognized and called upon to lead. Today we see a circus where truly great leaders are usurped into obscurity by the flash and bang of todays politics. WAKE UP! There are tried and tested candidates who have proven themselves and Rudy Giuliani is one I know of.

Aside from 9/11, Rudy inherited a failing city government handed to him by a hack liberal who had driven it into the ground with no hope of recovery. Rudy inspired New Yorkers and eventually won their respect for the way in which his policies “cleaned up the garbage” New York became whole again and the economy thrived, taxes were reduced, crime was down more than half and people came to visit.

Now it seems to me this kind of leader would be good for our Nation but all I can hear through the din of ambivalence is pettiness and acrimony. What gives?

Rooty thought he could get the GOP nomination by running as a liberal and reminding people that he was mayor on 9/11.

Yup. When he was elected mayor in NYC, he actually ran on the Republican AND liberal parties. Rudy IS a Liberal. He was in their party.

Let him run Education.

Right. Then eliminate the Department the next day.

Hope he hangs in until after the Floriduh primaries.

He may siphon votes away from McCain there - lots of liberal New Yorkers retire there.

The more votes all candidates can draw, the better chance of a brokered convention. I hope RG stays in it.

Keyes has a way with words and with this remark, he's right. Perfect!

Alan Keyes is still in the race.

Basing it on Rudy’s historical presence and history of winning there.

I never said that he would take Florida. Even when the polls were all predicting a Rudy blowout here, - like 3 weeks ago - I was saying that the polls were bogus, and that the real race here would shape up after the SC results.

And also that the Florida voters would not give a 2nd glance at Iowa or NH, just SC.

And here we are, exactly as I predicted. (for once)

This primary is too close to call and the polls mean virtually nothing.

Right after SC, but before Fred dropped out, I did make this prediction on FR:

1)McCain
2)Mitt
3)Rudy

4)tie between Fred and Huck - one of these might break out and challenge #3

5) everyone else

So far, I’m pretty close here, and even Fred may well still beat Huck, with all of the early voting that was done before he dropped out. - which was a mistake, IMO, but his call to make.

Thank you for your interesting post. - Bill

If McCain wins FLA (god forbid) it will be because he made some back room deal with the OBL (possibly the Cubans also). That will put him in league with Hillary and her Hispanic pandering philosophy.

Send him to Saudi Arabia as ambassador. A slap in their collective oily faces.

At least he had the chutzpah to return the check to the evil ones.

Yeah, it seems Keyes used up his whole quota of pithyness on that one. Now, all he has left is verbosity.

Romney haters are beyond the pale at reaching...Rudy dropping out is most likely to help McCain, so, yes, I am sure that is Romney's plan. Geez!

PS...you know I was rather lukewarm toward Romney, until so many of the MSM, some FReepers, Mutt & Jeff [McCain & his stooge, Huckabee] started piling on and lying about Romney so badly. The more that happens the more I like Mitt and the more I defend him and the more I will politic for him. I have a feeling I am not alone in this circumstance.

Perhaps RINO Rooty passed on tips to NYC liberals about switching voter registrations? Stealing the Florida primary might give Giuliani the illusion of a win after his earlier flops.......unless, of course, word gets out that he tipped-off his NYC liberal base about switching voter registrations (/sarc). Vote challenges might be in order.

Operation Snowbird; Lawyer urges snowbirds to cast their votes in Florida

Palm Beach Post | 9-19-2004 | Mary McLachlin
FR Posted on 09/20/2004 by Chicos_Bail_Bonds

BOCA RATON Lawrence Caplan learned an important political lesson: You can live in one state and vote in another. Caplan, a tax and corporate lawyer, has turned that lesson into Operation: Snowbird, an Internet tool designed to make a difference in the election of 2004 — if Democratic voters in New York and New Jersey respond to it.

All they have to do, according to Caplan's Web site, www.operationsnowbird.com, is switch their registrations to Florida, where their votes are more likely to be needed..... than in the deep "blue" states up north.
