You do know that as President Mitt would sign every piece of excrement anti-gun bill that made it to his desk, don’t you?
I don’t know that. I know that he is a man who has kept his promises. Not only in government, but in his business life. And his personal life, as he kept his promise to his wife, while many other candidates we have did not.
He has PROMISED that he will not sign any new AWB bills, and that he sees no need for any new legislation.
So unless you are a fortune-teller, you can’t know that he wouldn’t keep those promises.
And given that no anti-gun bill has made it through congress, the risk that he might be lying to you, SMALL as the risk is, is even less a problem.
McCain on the other hand has indicated support for some types of new gun control, in response to various “tragedies” that involve guns but for which his “fixes” will make things worse.
First, no bills should reach his desk.
Second, if he wanted to run for a second term, he wouldn't sign any.
Third, his statement that he believed the 2nd Amendment was an individual right was about as strong as one can make.
In that case, we're no worse off than since at least 1/20/89. No better, either, but certainly no worse.
We're going to have to do what we've done for the last 20 years (or more, since that stuff happened for many decades before Reagan), which is to hold our Congress' feet to the fire and their necks to the rope (political rope, not the real thing Mr. Secret Service or FBI Man). IOW, exercise our obligations as citizens to protect ourselves at the least harmful and costly level. This means being active citizens, period.
Perhaps this won't even be an issue anymore, depending on how the Supreme Court rules this Spring. Time will tell.
I'm no Romney cheerleader, and articles like this are why. However, I find him to be the least objectionable of all the candidates remaining in the Republican side...ALL of whom are better than ALL the Dem candidates. I don't like it, but that's our predicament right now. Barring a brokered convention that nominates Fred Thompson or someone like him (and I'm not holding my breath waiting for that), that is reality on Planet Earth.
OK. So John McCain gets a C+ for his record on 2nd AMDT. Jewelyannie is worse, Dems are worse than him. So who is your pick; Ron Paul?
