“From someone who missed the debate, can someone sum up what happened in a few sentences?”

Pretty unremarkable. Probably the worst, most biased questions I’ve ever seen, with the moderators at first attempting to turn the candidates against one another and, when that didn’t work, asking them endless “gotcha” questions, and refusing to accept the answers they were given.

To my mind, Romney won, hands down, and did not appear to be rattled by the assault questions. Rudy did almost as well, though Mitt, as far as I recall, is the only one who actually got in a few digs at The Real Enemy (The Clintons, of course). McCain was restrained, didn’t do badly. Even Huck, whom I dislike, had a few good answers and shining moments.

Overall, it was a very CIVIL debate... almost as if the candidates agreed beforehand that no matter what the idiot leftist moderators pulled, they weren’t going to attack each other and go for blood. To that end, it almost went too far the other direction, with several moments where the candidates stopped answering questions just to say something nice about one of the other guys (oh, how Russert and Williams must have hated THAT!!!).

I think if people get past style to substance and analyze the candidate on ability, experience and the issues, they will see that Romney is our best choice for President.

He has it on style too, but some can’t get past that. Same thing happened when Reagan came on the scene.

He will endorse Romney after Mitt gets the nomination...at least that's what Rush has been saying about endorsing anyone.

"I was unprepared to embrace any candidate tonight, but I thought Mitt Romney did the best."

I don't see how any conservative could not like what Romney says. I've always thought he could talk the talk, it's his sincerity that's bothered me. Tonight I saw a bit of passion and a great job of totally frustrating Russert by parrying his mad dog questions with ease. Mitt raised quite a few notches in my book.

Romney with a southern running mate could win. I think he is thick skinned enough to withstand it--he didn't succeed as CEO of huge corps. by sniveling.

As for being a liar, could he really hold a candle to McCain? Flip-flopper--isn't that just another way of saying liar? McCain is eaten up with ambition, and his volatility makes him dangerous. Even a MA liberal Republican like Romney cannot hold a candle to Johnny in the pants on fire dept..

Let's put it this way--McCain has already stuck it to us for years; he has had his last chance with me.

Mitt has not let us down yet. He is a smart man and might hold in his liberal tendencies as Pres. I'm willing to give him a chance.

Incidentally, anyone figure why the media is so big on bringing Mitt's Mormonism to the fore? They hate Christianity for the most part, so you would think they would be touting his Mormonism. I guess it is just that he is a Republican contender.

One other thing-Mitt has a beautiful family and never a whiff of scandal. The Mormons I have known are very family oriented (no, never knew a polygamist), and extremely helpful to friends and neighbors. John McCain, however, dumped his first wife, who was crippled in a car wreck, for someone younger, prettier and richer. Funny the media never comments on that.

Well yeah, maybe. But if you’re really paying attention,I think Chrissy and Gregory have had some very good things to say about Romney.

In my heart of hearts, I truly think that certain members of the press want what is best for this country.

Mine too.... after watching these debates. I was, and will always be a Duncan Hunter supporter. BUT... It’s time to stop dreaming about the perfect ticket and deal with what we got this time around.
