I’d rather take back the Republican Party than go through starting a whole new one.

I’m with you on that. I’d rather take my party back.

I agree. We have a better chance of making our way in the world with the Republican Party. Starting a third party will need years of ramp up time to be more that third party roles in the past ... a statement but not a driving force.

Not sure the GOP is the party of conservatives and if it ever was.

Lincoln certainly wasn't a conservative and the conservative movement is ridiculed and marginalized to this day by the majority of GOP politicians.

My point will be proved when either MYTH or McInsane get the nomination or run together.

At that point it will be clear that the GOP is broken and may not be fixable.

There is no reason to be a Republican if they do the same thing as the democrats.

People are deluding themselves when they say Obama/KLinton will be worse when in fact there will be no difference.

NO MATTER WHO WINS, taxes will go up, a socialized medicine mandate enforced by the IRS will be instituted, assault weapons ban will be signed, gay marriage will be forced upon all states, enhanced hate and thought crime legislation will be enacted, government spending will continue to increase and we will cut and run in the WOT which will be portrayed by the MYTHSTER or KLINTOON as BUSH'S fault.

In light of the above it makes a lot of sense to withhold all support from the GOP and start anew, a task much easier today than in the past due to the internet and websites such as this.

I will be changing my party affiliation to independent and would welcome suggestions on a name for a new party that all conservatives could support in lieu of and to counter the Republicans.

Yeah, the Democratic-Republican Party (1792–c.1824)

Agreed. I'd sure like to see 'directed giving' implemented. We need a much stronger conservative voice in the GOP and we'll only get it by our involvement and contributions, starting locally.

That would be like trying to control Microsoft by asking everyone to buy ten shares and pooling their efforts. Ain't gonna happen.

The best model is to develop and sustain within the party one or more caucuses of sufficient power that the smugs who run things are forced to take them into account. Look at the 'rat party--black caucus, women's caucus, unions, all a bunch of dirt but the party has to respect them.

What if the GOP had a really serious freemarket caucus led by some people who actually succeeded in getting elected; a rejuvenated and upgraded Christian right; a coherent defense/ national security lobby... not just bullshit emporiums like Heritage or Cato who ask me for money so they can treat themselves to black tie affairs every autumn, but real organizations of grass roots people, who have enough discipline not to get into pissing matches with each other.

Moral Majority was one that made it work, for awhile, so it can be done-- with the ever scarce but always essential ingredient--LEADERSHIP.

Start at the grass roots level. Unfortunately, by the time they run for higher offices, they’re all whores.

Duncan Hunter supporting The Huck is the latest example. And imagine all the FReepers who were willing to fall on their sword for old <1%.
