I think people placed too much emphasis upon their blowout of The Seahawks, because Seattle-no matter how many defensive players make the Pro Bowl-is one of the softest teams in the league.
It's proven that ever since its loss to Pittsburgh in The Super Bowl a few years ago.
IMHO- the Pats are not as strong as they were. They had turnovers against San Diego. I don't think they are invincible-even if they are undefeated. (I give them credit for that.) But, it's harder to maintain a win streak, than it is to beat an undefeated team.
IMO- if San Diego had all their players in, and playing at 100% (i.e. healthy), they would have won today.
I think Rivers was hurting much more than he was letting on.
At the start of the game the announcer said he had visited with Rivers the night before, and he saw him limping badly. They guy said he could not believe he was in the game.
He played with two braces on. LT didn't play. Gates played, but was hurting as well. The injuries made it impossible for San Diego to change the pace of the game. Still, they played their hearts out. They gave the Pats pause, on more than one occasion :-)
Watch out for them next season. They are a championship team in the making. Congratulations to the Charger's coach for a great job.
I can't wait to see the re-match with the Pats next year.
I agree with everything you said. Rivers is usually smiling or talking on the sidelines, but yesterday he just sat there.

I started out being a Redskins fan back in my other life around 1972 when I moved back to the states after five years and saw my first pro football game.
I know all about fan hate. I used to be a Redskins fan in the military, and there was no shortage of trash talkers in the group of Dallas fans, some of whom I grew to “hate”. I am not a trash talker by nature, and am more that sympathetic and conciliatory when the team I follow beats another team. Consequently, when Dallas used to beat the Skins, I would be subjected to a barrage of teasing and trash talkng the following day. I always vowed to return the favor, but when the opportunity came...I could never follow through on it.
With time, I realize those people were just doing what they enjoyed doing...trash talking was just part of it all, the way breathing is for humans, and lying is for liberals.
The bottom line is...I needed to distance myself from caring about the result so much that it would eat at me. Not healthy. So I stopped watching football for serveral years completely, after about twenty years straight of fanatical watching. I started again in the mid-late nineties, and found I could watch the Patriots and enjoy football, not being heart and soul eaten up with it. Now I can enjoy it for what it is...a game. I am much more objective, and can appreciate the efforts of the other team and the shortcomings of my own without making it personal.
If the Pats win or lose in the Superbowl, the sun is still going to rise and set, and the world will still spin.
Sure, it was ignorance. I was a young guy then with my priorities all screwed up. I got older and I see things differently, as I said in the post. You did read the rest of it, right?
But I see a lot of fans with just as much of a virulent hatred for the Patriots (or other teams)that wish for injuries to various players, that kind of thing.
I have found that being a football fan is a lot more fun rooting for your team, much more than having poisonous negative thoughts and hoping for misfortune or something worse for your opponent.

My preference was for Green Bay, as they are the one top team New England hadn't beaten this year.

The Patriots are so hyped in the media (with cause) that people believe they will win the game by about 80 points.
The final score will be within 10 points.

Abstract
The village of Barrow (71°N latitude) is the largest native community in the Arctic, with a population of approximately 4500 people. Situated on the coast of the Arctic Ocean in northernmost Alaska, the area is entirely underlain by permafrost. Although most supplies must be imported, Barrow relies on local natural gas fields to meet all energy requirements for building heat and electrical power generation. This energy eventually dissipates into the atmosphere, and can be detected as a pronounced urban heat island (UHI) in winter. Since 2001, a 150 km2 area in and around Barrow has been monitored using ∼70 data loggers recording air temperature at hourly intervals. The mean daily temperature of the urban and rural areas is calculated using a representative sample of core sites, and the UHI magnitude (MUHI) is calculated as the difference in the group averages. The MUHI is most pronounced in winter months (December—March), with temperatures in the urban area averaging 2°C warmer than in the surrounding tundra and occasionally exceeding 6°C. The MUHI is maximized under cold and calm conditions, and decreases with wind speed and warmer temperatures. It is strongly and directly correlated to natural gas utilization on a monthly basis. Integrated over the home heating season, there is an 8% reduction in freezing degree days in the village. It is unlikely that anthropogenic heat contributes to the forward shift in the snow meltout date that has been observed near Barrow over the past 60 years.

I'll note that that is not illegal. Yet another screaming hysteric who isn't aware of the rules or what the offense was, much less how little it impacts games.

Early in the season Morris was a better every-down back, as Maroney would get less than two yards on probably a majority of carries - especially if the other team was ready for him. In the middle of the season, Maroney was unfairly criticized because Bellicheck went to an offense that didn't utilize him much. Later in the season, he was over-hyped because he was running against defenses that left him big holes, thus upping his stats (decent running, still, though). The last two games(maybe three), however, he has been genuinely running very, very well.
Oh that's right, I now remember why : N - O - L - A - N.
The 49er's real problem isn't N - O - L - A - N -- It's John York and Denise Debartolo-York. As long as those two morons own this team they will never see the playoffs.
