There is a story to be told in that Rudy is the only candidate that can win claim that was all over the media for months. Nevertheless, at this point I think we all know that we are too divided to say any candidate is the "can win" candidate. The elections are too close. Dems have the advantage.
I don’t know and I don’t care.
I don’t think it matters who he endorses.
I didn’t know that!
Just a moment ago McCain said he hadn’t changed his position on immigration!
I don’t think that McCain would have any influence at all on the abortion issue. Lots of people assume that one or more court justices are going to croak in the next 4 years, but that’s not a given.
If there was a president Hillary, I don’t think she’d find it that easy to just pull the troops out immediately, which is why she’s backtracked about it before.
On immigration, Hillary would probably do exactly what McCain wants to do—open borders, everybody’s legal, ain’t I great?
So, while they aren’t the same people, I think it’s a wash as far as the results are concerned.
“So this is a huge victory for all of us who dont pull over for a picnic whenever we see some roadkill.”
OHHHawww....that just made my night.

You know what? You're right. Endorsements just aren't making much difference in the age of independent mindedness. I was just making a guess because it is fun to see if you're right later.
Will never happen. In fact I would be shocked if any of the remaining candidates endorse Romney on dropping out.
I could never vote for ANYONE that was supported by the majority of Massachusetts voters! Land of Pumpkin head Ted.
“Romney is the only one left that can stop McCain and salvage the Republican Party. Thats a plain fact at this point.”
Mitt the Great White Mormon is not electable, and he is not going to be the GOP nominee. Fred will either endorse McCain or not endorse anyone. IF Fred drops out.
Generally, the correct and professional procedure is to drop out and announce he will endorse the party’s eventual nominee.
This, btw, equates to a huge Romney boost because it’s pretty clear he gets most of the Thompson people.
But . . . this very moment, given that McCain’s pollsters know that, McCain is begging him to stay in.
“No endorsement necessary. Fredheads can think for themselves.”
Thank you. If Fred pulls out, he shouldn’t endorse any candidate.
Do candidates that drop out normally endorse someone during their concession speech? Don’t they usually wait a day or two first? I’m not sure, so I’m asking.
Suddenly your political negative of being the party in power is neutralized. I am afraid the DC Old Boy’s club has all ready written off 2008. They figure they are beat all ready so they will simply throw up one of their used up old boy politicians in a token effort so they don’t waste any of their political talent from the bench. It will be 1996 and Dole all over again.
Stupid. With Hillary’s negatives she is very beatable but only by some smart political jujitsu. McCain ain’t it.
I think it can make people think about things, but probably not significant. If my candidate folded and endorsed huck or mccain it wouldn’t matter one bit. I like Fred and I hope I don’t have to wonder about Rudy.
This isn't Bush and his minions we are talking about. You will get a few that do that but most who supported him will be livid.
“He will endorse McCain, and the majority of FReepers will say nothing.”
I sure hope he doesn’t but its his right. Thompson is a good man. Thompson is a loyal friend and citizen. Sometimes good qualities run at cross purposes. Lets hope he picks good citizen and doesn’t endorse McCain. If he does though, it may help Romney’s “outside the beltway” image, because conservatives will feel like the fix is in. It also might help the Husksters.
Mike Huckabee was never seen as an "electable" candidate a few monthes ago. He was a "second tier" candidate who had "no chance of winning outside Arkansas" and we were told over and over again that the "real" candidates who were "electable" nationally were Giuliani, Thompson, and Romney.
Low and behold, Mike Huckabee comes in 2nd in the Iowa Straw Poll. Fredheads laugh it off as a fluke and proclaim Huckabee is toast once Fred enters the race. Then Huckabee's numbers rise nationally and he's polling top place in Iowa and South Carolina. Fredheads denounce it the media "generated hype" and proclaim Huckabee is unelectable and will never beat Romney when the actual votes are cast. Then Huckabee wins Iowa...
So here we have a candidate who was NEVER expected to win, and now he's consistantly placed in the top three of every primary in the nation, and the Fredheads want to do is heap scorn and insults at him, calling him a socialist, because they somehow believe trashing Huckabeee will cause their guy to win. Well it didn't work. All they did is help McCain, one of the establishment candidates.
Good work.
