Sen. John McCain won Saturday's South Carolina Republican presidential primary, AP projects.

Fox News and NBC News exit polls ranked the economy as the top concern among South Carolina primary voters, followed by illegal immigration, the war in Iraq, and terrorism.

Columnist and Weekly Standard Editor William Kristol commenting on Saturday's results on the Fox News Channel said that the Republican field is now winnowing down to just three viable candidates: McCain, Mitt Romney, and Rudy Giuliani.

Problem is, with the media controlling thoughts, fewer and fewer people will be able to know what true freedom is, or was.

Conforming minds is the intent. They are doing an easy job of it with millions of people absorbed in TV day after day, night after night.

But I agree, a few freedom fighters still remain yet.

McCain was for the surge in Iraq way before the President was for it. Rummy never wanted a large increase in troops and McCain had been calling for it for years.

My Number One priority is the win the war.

McCain knows how to do it.

You cannot go by these counts because the GOP is taking away from all these early states... people are reporting incorrect data.

No one even opposed him last time around.. if the same democrat had run against him that opposed Kyl in 2006 odds are McCain might have lost.... as it is he was so arrogant that he bragged he didn’t need to campaign.... you don’t really want to get people around here started on the subject of John McCain.... we basically have one senator — Kyl — McCain does what McCain wants and his attitude is s@rew the people he is supposed to be working for.

And while you’re asking those questions, what the EFF is up with open primaries? What geniuses thought that up? How about REPUBLICANS choose the REPUBLICAN candidate?

The benefit to open primaries is that by including Independents you have a better shot of nominating a candidate who has the better chance of winning in the general elections. A candidate who cannot win Independents is going to have a hard time winning the general election.

What is needed are stronger controls to prevent Democrats from being able to spoil a Republican primary. For instance, if Independents had to choose a primary 15-30 days in advance that would reduce spoilage.

Carolyn,

Really? McCain is no worse than Hillary or Obama. You’ve got to be kidding.

I have shared, here in Arizona, the frustration caused by our “open borders” Senator. I too see the crime rate going up, and the major cause of that being the illegals which McCain doesn’t open his eyes long enough to notice.

In many ways, I cannot stand the guy.

That all goes out the window when Hillary or Obama step into the mix. For me, they are contemptable. Hillary has a socialist utopian view of where this country is supposed to be that is doomed to flames. Only problem is, we won’t survive it. Obama is a tool. Ultimately, he will be a Hillary Clinton hand puppet, even if she doesn’t win.

I can only pray that the immigration issue is strongly control by a good GOP margin in the house. The rest of McCains positions aren’t bad, in my opinion. I’m not going to burn the house down, just because I don’t like the curtains.

Bull... listen to McCain — he is taking credit (now) for the success of the surge, but he kept saying more troops, more troops, he never thought up this current plan... he is against doing what it takes to know what the terrorists are doing... don’t listen to the MSM hype on McCain — actually research McCain.....

Everyone save the "then you'll elect Hillary" crap please. Fine. She gets elected.

That's just crazy talk. It's not "fine" if she gets elected.

I digress, those are the numbers the GOP discounted 50%. That’s why Michigan’s delegates are listed as: 60 (30)

Agreed LWalk,

To not go to the polls at all would be giving the demoncrats the entire government, to shape like putty into thier favorite Marxist plaything.

My issues with McCain are much more than just the borders — and that is major — just off the top of my head:

He was the swing vote against drilling in ANWR in 2002 — he is every bit as enamored of the environmental wing of the democratic party as any of the Al Gore lefties....

McCain-Feingold (Thompson) as in Free Speech — who was behind funding that plan — SOROS...

then the McCain-Kennedy that he now denies was what it was

Voted against Bush Tax Cuts

Keating Five

and much more.... his record as a senator is abysmal...

"Anyone who thinks that Hillary or Obama would be a better choice than McCain is an absolute vacuum of intelligent matter."

When did I say that? If it comes down to McCain as opposed to Hillary or Obama I vote for McCain.

I understand the reasoning behind it, but I’m sorry, I just don’t think that independents or crossovers are intelligent enough for their input to be valuable. Dangle a shiny object in front of them and they’ll get distracted to the next candidate.

I think that republicans can decide among themselves who is the best electable candidate who also represents our party’s core values. What we’ve ended up with instead appears to be a bit of a cluster-you-know-what.

Sorry bart,

It wasn’t you. But if you look at some of the earlier posts, there were several people that are so pissed about McCain that they don’t see a difference between he and the Hellary monster.

I meant my reply towards them, in particular. Forgive me.

and lest I forget:

His public denouncements of abu Ghraib and Guantanamo has promoted enemy propaganda,

Gang of 14 (there is that pesky Teddy Kennedy again)..

He is so democrat-lite that remember they tried to get him to flip in 2006 to their side and Kerry wanted him as his running mate.... his best friend in the Senate next to Lindsay Graham (his likely VEEP) is Joe Lieberman... they have multiple bills they have co-authored and introduced. Lieberman isn’t exactly a bastion of conservatism...

McCain is NOT a conservative and not much of a Republican.

Well then,

We’ll have to keep our fingers crossed for Mitt because it’s going to be one of the two.

I will back either one.

McCain received 10% fewer votes in SC than in 2000.

Bush’s 2000 vote was split between Huckabee, Thompson, and Romney..

Huckabee is kissing up to McCain because he wants to be chosen as his veep..... they both hate Romney.. and will collectively go after Romney with a vengence in the next ten days.

Don't sweat it. I don't care to see McCain as president but he is better than Hillary or Obama.
