It also may be that they just do what Lindsey Graham tells them. He is more popular there than we believed in the summer of 2007.

I was a Scoop Jackson Democrat. IMO McCain isn’t because of McCain-Feingold - Scoop was real big on the 1st Amendment. McCain-Feingold is also why I’ll stay home in November if McCain is the GOP nominee. IMO he is an enemy of freedom.

He never got over what the party hacks did to him in South Carolina in 2000.

So it's all about him, not what's good for the country?

Thank you for the explanation. I hope Thompson stays in. I am starting to wish he’d consider the Veep job.

Am I the only one who thinks the Miers thing was some plot thought up by Karl Rove in order to pave the way for the Roberts nomination? It did a great job at firing up the base. President Bush never counted on getting stabbed in the back by McCain, Graham, et al. and their gang of 14.

Greenville 46% in. McCain leads Huckabee by 20 votes.

The upstate is conservative on abortion only.SIBAs (single issue born agains)rule the GOP up there.
If you disagree, tell me why is a pro-life liberal pastor doing so well there?

Because Thompson isn’t doing well in Florida. He gets nothing from that other than an also-ran going into Super Tuesday. Giuliani still has a shot BECAUSE he is banking on Florida.

This is Thompson’s Florida and he’s not getting the job done.

Great.

Sounds like something we might have a little faith in. Also sounds like Rudy knew what he was doing.

Mitt Romney is a plastic banana. He looks fake and is fake. Tell him to knock off the hair dye...he looks like a bad actor. He wouldn’t win against Hillbama. Fred would.

the party leaders let too damned many run...

I would've thought more choices is better, but in this instance its easy to see how things can spin out of control.

And, of course the conservative wing winds up with the sh**-end of the stick - again.

The problem with McCain (and Huckabee, Guiliani, and Romney) is that if they win the nomination they will feel they got it because of moderates and not the conservative base of the party. If elected they will not feel beholden to conservatives and will govern to attract the support of moderates from both parties. The first sign of that would be if McCain named Lieberman as his running mate. But, as I said, he is the only one of the liberals who would be an effective commander-in-chief on day one, and we are at war. We owe it to our troops go provide the best commander-in-chief possible.

You’re prolly right - but do we want a president who does things out of spite and revenge instead of what is best for the country?

Not ideally. But it's better than a president who enacted a socialized medicine scheme in his state (Flip Romney), or one that got support from NARAL (Abortiani).

If that's what it comes down to, call me a McCainaic.

Woud it raise your suspicions if McCain put Fred in a cabinet position or even selected him as his running mate? Don’t you think Fred’s involvement in the race probably helped McCain by splitting up the social conservative vote? Who exactly had the most to gain? I’ll give you a hint: it’s someone old and decrepit and turd-crazy with a penchant for saying the phrase “my friends”.
